I have a Nintendo Wii at the moment but I have also been very impressed with the games I have seen coming out for the 360. Games like Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon, Lost Planet, have all caught my attention. Plus I am an avid race fan and the Forza game looks really nice. Anyway, I don't really know a whole lot about the 360 to be honest and I was wondering if there was anything I should be aware of, pro or con. I've been doing my research and checking around the web but I thought maybe someone might know something here that I wouldn't find anywhere else. I know if I am getting one it will be the $399 one (Not to be misunderstood but the PS3 is completely out of question for me). I'm mostly concerned about the price of the games though at $60. Are these prices ever going to drop a little. I've noticed that Viva Pinata is $50 though at Wal-Mart. Hmm...it's a tough choice. So darn expensive. Also, TV wise mine are very standard and plain, will that affect the games or anything? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Bad idea! It comes with a warranty and intercoolers only make it worse in the long run.

Hmmm. Alright i'll try to help ya out bud. First off I noticed you have problems with the price, so I'll say this right now. If you really want to play the 360 to its full potential then your going to have to spend a some money (THAT INCLUDES the tv, addons, online, games, etc, etc). However if your a casual gamer you should be fine as well. The games aren't affected by how bad/old your TV is,  just the quality of games are and seeing you are a Wii player (which doesn't need High Def), I think you might be okay with it. As for the price of games going down... I can't say when and I won't b/c I can't predict things, but if you want try to buy Viva Pinata or any other game go to Ebay or something (Here's a link to one).

Don't worry there's always a price drop sooner or later it just takes time. Well that's all I can give you at the moment pal. Sorry its a bit vague, but I'm sure there are others out there who can help you better than I can:P

I don't care for ebay, thanks anyway though. If I buy a 360 I wont be trying to get everything on it; for example I have absolutely no interest in using it for DVDs or anything and I definitely wont be getting the HD-Drive. I'm not a heavy graphics buff. I'm primarily a Nintendo Wii/DS player. There are some genre of games that I really love to play that just are not available on Nintendo products such as simulation racing games and RPGs can be kind of rare also. I guess what I am saying is that the Wii/DS are my primary systems and I'm considering get the 360 for those genres that are harder to find on Nintendo consoles. Does that make sense? I would primarily just use a 360 for say games like Forza, Viva Pinata, maybe Oblivion, etc. I would say I am not quite the average player in terms of time spent playing but not a hardcore player by any means. My main interest is just the games.

Would it benefit me you think to just get the core system? That would knock off $100. I've actually got a good set of games to trade in at Eb and I could probably knock roughly $100 off with that.

Don't get the core. You can't even save game data. You have to start over every time.

Yep. Buying a core is just more expensive in the long run.

Well, I have good news and bad news. Good news is I bought the Full packaged 360 with the harddrive and everything for $180 by trading in and getting +$200 in store credit. The bad news is the harddrive doesn't work and I'm going to have to make another half-hour trip to GameStop to get a brand new one. Tried talking to customer service and all that (E67) and I know with 100% assurity now that the harddrive is messed up. What's really cruddy is that without the hdd in the system it works perfectly but I have to have the hdd, it's too expensive to just let it go and get another one so I am going to have to take it back and get a whole new one which I hope wont have any other problems.

I guess that's one-strike against Microsoft (never bought any of their consoles before). Kind of ironic cause I got the Wii at launch and never had a problem, get the 360 a year after its launch and I have problems, not what I would have expected. Guess I just got one with a bad hdd, the console itself was awesome. I'm sure it will work out, I just can't help but be a little frustrated though.

Nintendo Wii is a repackaged game-cube with motion sensing software added on, of course they've had little to no technical problems with them, they've had over 4 years to work on the hardware :p If you still have quarrel with the prices of games on the 360, keep in mind that from the very beginnings of console games you were paying $50 per game, so a bump in 10 dollars over the past 20 odd years ain't much to complain about if you catch my drift. Anyway, the 360 is a bit more financially heavy than the wii, but the system quality is so vastly superior in every single feasible respect that Microsoft probably could charge ps3 prices for it and get away with it. Anyway, you'll find the number of games aswell as the quality of games on the 360 to be immaculate in comparison the wii's titles, and if you really want to get into the 360 gaming experiance I would suggest investing in the shorter version of the gold xbox live subscription. It might not seem like a big deal, but multiplayer gaming over x-box live is quite frankly the be-all end-all of the video game industry. So much so that ps3 is desperately trying to compete with it right now (failing miserably mind you, but trying none the less) with it's online service. Anyway, yes, you're going to run into a problem here and there, but the 360 is an advanced piece of hardware, not like the wii that (I swear) is powered by a tiny mouse running on a tiny wheel inside the console which spins the CD, which is then read and interpreted by a cockroach who draws pictures on the inside of your t.v.

well if i were you i would try out live when you get it because it has a free 1 month trial which just sold me into buying live, umm of course i suggest Gears of War, and Oblivion which is a good game because i see that you seem to be interested in RPG's, but you can ALWAYS find good deals on games by looking in your sunday ad, my suggestion is wait a week or two for a new game because Circuit City will have it for 40$

make sure you run games in the horizontal position and store your system on a table; not the carpet. also, about the price of games. alot of the launch titles are 30$ now and some of them are good/decent. For example, condemned, fight night round 3, kameo, perfect dark zero, and project gothan racing 3 are all 30$ or less used at gamestop. i personally liked The outfit but no one seems to like it.

Accoring to xbox-scene.com, a site made by xbox360 modders, they claim the vertical position damages disks more frequently. Maybe they are wrong

Thanks for the info. Got it exchanged and the new one's working great. I looked around and found PGR 3 packed with the Forza (for xbox) for $30 at Wal-Mart.

Been downloading some demos off of Xbox Live and so far I have been really getting into the Lost Planet demo. If only I could mix the wii-mote with the 360 it would make shooting bugs so much quicker lol. I really like both systems a lot so far (grant it I have had the Wii for 3-4 months now). They both have their pros and cons mind you. The two systems are so different that I think it makes a great match of consoles so you can get the widest arrangement of games. Just my opinion. Thanks for all the help!:D Later.
