Since I bought a HDTV and surround sound I have been enjoying my movies a lot more. I have really been pondering the purchase of the HD-DVD add on for my 360. Especially aftwer the small price drop, it makes it a bit more appealing. Im just afraid after I spend the $180, HD-DVd releases will become far and gone....

Yeah its killing me, I mena on one hand its fairly cheap, I mean $180...thats a good deal. But to get BluRay it would be $500, to get the PS3. I just dont want to get it and then its like, HDDVD is dead, should have saved up for BluRay

I just bought the HD-DVD player recently. Very happy with it. You should be able to use the $40 off $199 coupon at Circuit City if you add something to get the subtotal over $200. Plus, you get King Kong free as well as 5 other HD-DVDs...

If you are a movie guy, I'd say go for it. Even if doesn't win the war, you still have high-def movies that will look and sound the same if they were on BD. You're only investment is the hard ware. I'd suggest trying to find a stand alone though..the HD A2. Its a better player for options, and you can still use it as an excellent upscaler for DVDs.

if you have doubts just hold off for a while longer. Me personally never got the add-on and went with blu-ray simply because of the studio support. Just save up, and when you feel more comfortable about your decision, you can by the player and a good few of movies to watch on it. haha

As I mentioned in another similar thread: if you have any questions about it or whatever, I'll be happy to answer.

I wouldnt worry about it. They already have players that do both formats, just get one of those once they come down in price, then you are set no matter who wins. For now the initial investment is cheap and will get you into high Definition, totally worth it.

I love my hd-dvd add on player. I use it a lot more than my ps3 for hi definition movies. i would not worry about the format war. For the price you will get a lot of enjoyemnt out of it. If your really worried...just rent hd-dvds from netflix.

You can find them in the little coupon packs that are at the post office. They're the moving packs I think. I used a print out of one that i got from slickdeals however and they accepted it.

I used the following:

http://www.mypicshare.com/mrkra9hspic.html

Just printed it out, cut off the extra stuff and handed it to the cashier. She gave me a Gift Card instead of taking the discount off the items, but that's fine with me.

Oh, and just a warning, your local CC may not accept that because it's a printout and says "no photocopies". But it worked for me. If that doesn't work, just drop by your local post office and grab one of the moving packs they give out for free. should be an actual coupon in there I'm told...

I bought it last week at CC for $161.00, and have since rented a few movies. I think it's worth it even if Blu-ray wins, although I don't really see either format dominating at the moment because so few people have HDTV's and even fewer have HD-DVD or Bluray players. There are probably people who still haven't even switched to DVD from VHS, so I don't see HD formats really taking off for another 2-3 years. Bottom line, it's way too early to tell, and at such a low price with the 5 HD-DVD offer, you can't go wrong.

What about your being able to use all the bonus features in movies come Oct on your older BluRay player? Oh wait, that's right.... sorry, I had to. Or did you not know that the BluRay format is getting a nice overhaul this fall that will render many players incapable of playing some of the stuff on newer discs?

I put a bunch ofinfo on the HDDVD drive and format in this thread: http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=25805974

What about the screen tearing that occurs on blu ray movies and the green and purple bars that come up every 20min or so. Don't even down play that because I have both a PS3 and a Samsung BP-1000. Oh wait I forgot, what about the fact that HD DVD uses better video formats. Gocheck out a timeline of all the new sony formats that came out, that tried to take over the mainstream. Quick summary they all failed.Go watch umd's on your psp.

$179.99 for a HD DVD Player and 5 movies. Why not?
