Ok so I just got my 360 and I'm finding it extremely hard to get it connected to Xbox Live. I'm trying to share my internet connection with my computer so I have my 360 connected to the Ethernet port in my comp and my comp connected to my modem via USB. When I run the Xbox Live test it gets to the IP Address test and then fails. I've checked all the xbox forums I can find and none seem to have a solution to my problem so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same set-up as you and I solved my problem by running the Network Setup Wizard in the Control Panel. When you have your xbox connected directly to your computer you have to set up a network via the setup wizard. I hope that helps

Your modem has to have DHCP enabled or you'll have to enter an IP address into your 360 manually.

Sorry I'm not an expert on this stuff and I've never connected my 360 through a PC, but you could try disabling windows firewall since it might be blocking your 360. You've also tried configuring everything manually? (IP, subnet, default gateway and DNS)

Edit: ^beat me to it

It's in the control panel under security, it's called windows firewall. Just open it up and disable it and see if that helps.

I heard somewhere that you must use a crossover cable between your 360 and your PC but I'm not certain about that.

You only need the crossover cable if you're connecting to an NIC card which I'm not

Do you have admin rights on your computer? If you don't then the icon may be hidden since your account wouldn't be allowed to change settings like that.
