I've heard the gameplay is repetitive, and that the writing in the game isn't very good, yet overall it's a good game.

I'm thinking about getting it, but I have doubts. Your thoughts?

Not at all. I'd struggle to find any instance of real repetition. The combat is excellent and exciting(and innovative IMO), the story is brilliantly told and you'll become addicted to collectible hunting. And its quite a looker too.

It's a fantastic game, well worth your cash.

Edit: Just thought I'd add that its my favourite game this year. Maybe even this gen

I thoroughly enjoyed ALAN WAKE... and no, its not repetitive. The DLC is even great...\

Its like a really good XFiles Episode crossed with a cool crime movie.

I recommend it!

Haha, alright. I'm thinking about getting either Alan Wake, or Bioshock 2, but no one in the game recommendation thread has responded yet. Your thoughts again?

It felt like it was repetative to me. The atmosphere of the game is great, but it seemed like you are doing the same thing over and over again. Great game nevertheless...

Hmmm..

The same could be said for CoD/Medal of Honor/Halo i.e. "you go one place, shoot loads of lads, rinse repeat" or Forza/GT i.e. "you do laps around a track in a car". Those games would rarely be called repetitive so Alan Wake should be no different.

Someone issued that repetitive label to it early on and it stuck. Chances are, if you hadn't heard any sort of opinion about it before you played it, repetitive wouldn't have been the first word that would jump to mind.

TC, don't get Bioshock 2, it dissapointed a lot of people. Go with me on this one with Alan Wake, you'll thank me mate.

Yes it gets really repetitive. At the start it is kind of fun but it gets old really fast. You shine a light on them then shoot a pistol WOOOOT...

The writing is done very well actually it is the best part of the game.

I agree. Atmosphere 10/10 but the COMBAT was very repetitive. It was the only thing in Alan Wake that annoyed me.

I personally thought the game got so repetitive that it became a chore to finish the game, although I did finish.

I didn't feel it was more repetitive than most games.

Great game!

I loved this game, as repetitive as it may seem to you at times, it's engaging and thrilling story will only make you want to play it more. And the ending of the game is mind blowing. Definitely get Alan Wake or at least give it a rent.

Even if people don't respond in the recommendation thread, don't post questions that should go in it, outside of it.
