Now don't hurt me.... I mean no disrespect. I am REALLY looking forward to the game, it looks amazing and I love the whole series so far (Frowns at Halo Wars)

My point is this.... I've been playing COD MW2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 for a while now and the thought of going back to Halo and having to shoot from the hip with no button to aim down your sights... it just puts me into a fit of shivers and cold sweats. I honestly don't think I can go back to shooting from the hip like that now I'm so used to destroying people with my red dot rapid fire P90 down the sights!!

Don't get me wrong. I am deeply looking forward to it, its just i dont know how I will handle going back to shooting from the hip now that I've been aiming down my sights and kill streaking like a mofo lol.

Anyone else worried about that? Any news on a solution in Reach? IT just doesn't feel nearly as accurate going back to ODST.

That's the way Halo is.If they tried to change it,they'd ruin the formula and the game itself. If you can't take it,just don't buy it.

gee... theres a helpful response if ever I saw one. I gather you took mild offense to my thread? hows about if YOU can't take it, you don't reply? yeah, thats better. Iam actually originally a Halo purist but years of COD and Battlefield have messed with my fps mindset. I'd like to hear from some people who are facing the same issue as me. I know thats how the game is played and how it works, i'm not a complete spastic... but I'd be amazed if there was someone out there in a similar situation to me who willl find it easy to go back to Halo from COD.

i agree with you, i have been playing Battlefield and Cod fo years now and im very used to that way of playing, i knew it would be strange going back, so i have recently started playing Halo 3 again just to try and get used to the Halo style of play again, and man is it hard to adjust, its very different and iv been playing Halo 3 on and off for 2 weeks or so now, and im only just starting to win games again now, so it takes a bit of time to get back into it

so i would recommend playing Halo 3 now to get some practice in so that you are fully up to speed when Reach comes out.....

Think I might do that this Saturday as the mrs is out on a hen do and I can just crack on at it for 6 hours straight, then the following weekend shes working. Hopefully I will be ready when my Halo Legendary edition comes out. It just bugs me that the two are so different and that it effects my play, I used to adore the Halo games because the vehicles, the game mechanics and everything were just perfect, but COD is totally different and it just seems like a major stumbling block going back to Halo being unable to zoom unless its a scope or the little pistol lol But i cant wait though. I just hope they stick to the story from the novel and also hope we see the Master Chief, however briefly. With any luck this will spark interest in a movie again, to begin a movie franchise with the reach story would be nuts. I ALSO hope they come up with another game to cover where MC went, but I know that probably won't be bungie. What a bummer

You can buy Halo reach from the marketplace right now :) It's 99999 points though, so probably best to wait for release. 7GB dowload too

The other thing to consider is Halo is built around the 'shoot from the hip' gameplay and COD and Battlefield are built from the 'aim down the barrel' gameplay. As it is in the design, Halo doesn't make it quite so hard to see who is in front of you and the reticle is adjusted for that gameplay, and vice versa for the other two. I think you'll be surprised on how quickly you adjust back to 'shooting from the hip'.

I am actually aware of all of the fact that they have to different styles of gameplay, I just think it will be a bit strange going back to Halo is all, I mean firing from the hip and still actually hitting accurately will just be odd lol. Normally in COD if you fire from the hip your about 20% likely to actually hit your enemy, so the concept of not focusing and still hitting people will be strange to me. But I'm sure I'll pick it up eventually! I can't wait for this game actually, I think it looks fantastic and will play brilliantly. I just hope they bring a bit more variety to the weapons. They should keep the old ones but mix it up a bit. As it stands, from the trailers I can see they are seriously doing that already, things like the Spartan powers, the space ship section and the different classes based on your type of Spartan will make it so much more varied.

I like having grenade as a button. In CoD, I see a time that would be perfect moment for grenades. By the times I switch trough all the other gear I have, the moment is past.

I like in Halo the grenade having their own throw button.

You'll probably just need a little time to get use to Halo again. After a game or two, you'll be fine. Personally, I don't have an issue with adapting to the different styles of aiming in CoD and Halo.

Yeah I agree with you a little. I'm gonna be a bit bewildered at first by the hip firing and the fact that in halo it takes way more bullets to kill. Hopefully I'll get used it though. Been playing too much FPS like the ones you mentioned, I could use a change of pace.

so you HAVE to play EVERY new FPS that comes out? THIS is why i hate playing online with the 360 sometimes. WAY too many people just use the 360 as a FPS simulator. I honestly sick of xbox just making FPS games. since the original Halo came out I just havent been a fan of the series. I might play COD4 or something like that once in a while, but i dont see why everyone wastes $60 for EVERY halo game the day it comes out. halo games are the worst of the fps games IMO. at least COD games have some realism to them. Halo is just so far out there. i personally would rather wait til a friend gets it and then when they get sick of it, i'll borrow it maybe.

Why do people criticize the Halo series for a lack of "realism"? It's a game about genetically engineered super soldiers fighting aliens with plasma weapons on planets on the other side of the galaxy. This is not Iraq.

Well, this is just the way Halo is.There is no button for aiming. That's why it's hard for me to alternate between games. Since I play Halo so much, I'm really bad at any game that requires you to aim down sights.

yeah, game design in general is getting poor, the amount of good games being released which are original and new is tiny

For my Halo is like the proverbial bicycle that you never forget how to ride. It just takes a few games to get into the groove and stop getting pwned. To be quite honest I perfer it's shooter style over CoDs.

I very much doubt it will surpass CoD. CoD2 is still running strong and I cannot imagine CoD4 or MW2 will be dying anytime soon. I really cannot see Halo doing this as my opinion is that Halo 3 died way faster than it should have. Dont get me wrong, Halo3 is still popular, but not to the extent that it should be.

My guess is that it will be popular for 6 months with record sales but then it will go the way of all the other Halo games. Same thing over and over and over and over........

@TC, sort of. Halo's gameplay this gen is stale it hasn't tried changing or maturing one bit. The same **** since 2001. (even the abilities aren't really new) I want to want Reach, my inner Halo fanboy crying out, but the Beta wasn't impress nor was it all that enjoyable outside of the armor customization and theater mode... Maybe a try before I buy. Campaign looks good. Wish Crysis 2 wasn't delayed I didn't wan't Reach or COD:BO or anything else for that matter but between the two Reach seems the lesser of two evils. (COD died 11/10/09) Nothing really good this holiday. Spring is looking good though; KZ3, Brink, Dues Ex... I think Rage.

My orriginal reply was a bit long, thought I'd cut it down lol. I'm not sure I agree with your comments about the 360 being treated as an FPS Simulator. theres no denying that the 360 is better for FPS players, the controller just allows for more precision and its not designed for the hands of a 12 year old and the catalogue of FPS games is impressive, but the 360 is well known for having dozens of new franchise RPG's, racing games, fighting games and Arcade games along with loads of 3rd person shooters and adventure games. And its also unfair to say that the 360 is reliant on the Halo franchise. While that may have been somewhat true for the orignal xbox, its just tosh now and bears no relevance with the current xboxs success/shelf life.

And whoever it was who said that the franchise was being milked, you must be a ps3 owner... the Playstation are a prime example of milking the franchise, they started the bloody trend in the first place!! All the Tony Hawks, Fifas, final fantasys and tekkens etc are all simply franchises being milked for all their worth. Anyway everyone does it, you'd be stupid not to make sequels to good, successful games.

And I was not intending to start an arguement about whether Halo or COD are the better fps, because theres no reason to compare the two. COD is about a more realistic setting with Humans, modern weaponry and terrorists. Halo is a Scifi Franchise with a superhuman soldier as the main character. Theres no reason to talk about which is better because it all boils down to the individuals opinions. I personally like both. And if I had to say which game was my favourite of all time regardless of genre or age it would be a stalemate between Shenmue 2 and Panzer Dragoon Saga. shows how old I am lol.

Hang on so Killzone 3 is going to be a massive leap forward into the future for fps' is it?? I don't think so, its a low rent attempt to make a Halo Killer franchise. And I know for a fact as I have the first on ps2. And while I can't comment on the second or 3rd, I''m sure its gameplay won't be earth shattering either. The fact is that Halo's gameplay is excellent fun, and it has a great story to back it up. If it's not something you enjoy then fair enough, but thats your opinion. Anyway I'm not saying Halo is the greatest franchise on earth, I just enjoy it and am looking forward to Reach very much, the variety that the Noble squad will bring such as spartan powers, melee kills to mix up the combat and the section where you will be flying a space ship like a space shooter/flight sim look awesome. So they are certainly trying to mix up the formula going forward.

I agree with you on Crysis 2, the first was excellent, I was blown away by that game, wish the second one was out now. The only thing that bugs me about Crysis is the relatively small amount of health your character has and the short time that the armor lasts... I mean compared to some of the waves of enemies you faced it was a bit unfair. thats just my opinion though, I can't wait for Crysis 2. But for the time being I'm all about the Reach. Mainly I'm looking forward to it so much because I've read the book. Its going to be epic

lol that's actually a sad but true fact to be fair... If theres one thing I HATE above all else its playing online and having to listen to little scroats mouthing off at each other with their prepubescent voices just screeching in my ear. thats why I enjoy muting everyone on COD and just private chatting with a friend while we play, hopefully there won't be so much of it now on Reach.

A very good point. I still don't get why people are comparing the two series at all... no similarities and they appeal to different types of gamers.

AND in response to whoever mentioned it earlier, saying that the 360 relys on the Halo Franchise is a load of bull. I mean everyone knows the names of games the ps3 rely on right? Gran(late as **** Turismo.... FF 56,001, GTA 37, and Tekken 8,672. But no... the ps3 doesn't rely on milking franchises now does it... nooo no no noooo! only the 360 does with Halo.... course. Both consoles have staple properties and successful series. the only reason peopleB*&$£ and moan that the 360 relies on the Halo franchise is because they are just ticked off that they don't have a series as succesful or as good and they are simply jealous.

That's what makes halo unique, and not just a sci fi version of call of duty, now the maker of fable thinks he's being smart by changing up the fable theme and guess what now fable is starting to suck.

Halo Reach is the envoy of the Xbox's death. After Reach the 360 is pretty much done.

That's the only reason i'm dreading it. I expect it to be mucho fun.

How do you figure? Forgot about a little game called Gears of War 3?

Anyway, on to the topic at hand: I don't think aiming down the sight is really that big of a deal. It certainly shouldn't deter you from playing games that don't allow you to do so. To be honest, I'm a fan of not aiming down the sight, which is why I prefer Halo to other games like Modern Warfare and BC. It reminds me of oldschool FPS games like Quake and Doom, which I adore to this day. Besides, it's not completely true that you can't aim down the sights as you still have the option to zoom with the BR and the sniper rifle.

yeah, game design in general is getting poor, the amount of good games being released which are original and new is tinyOverlord93

Elitists...your arguments are so stale and without substance. Milk this, milk that, games not being "innovative" enough or "realistic" enough...Get off your high horse man. If you want to be straight with it, you can't really say that any games are innovative anymore. There's nothing you can do in Heavy Rain that you couldn't do in oldschool PC text adventure games. Seriously though...There is no more innovation to be had. Every idea stems from something else that's already been done before, it's just the way that it is presented that appears new and, if you're a n00b, will actually be new to you.

so you HAVE to play EVERY new FPS that comes out? THIS is why i hate playing online with the 360 sometimes. WAY too many people just use the 360 as a FPS simulator. I honestly sick of xbox just making FPS games. since the original Halo came out I just havent been a fan of the series. I might play COD4 or something like that once in a while, but i dont see why everyone wastes $60 for EVERY halo game the day it comes out. halo games are the worst of the fps games IMO. at least COD games have some realism to them. Halo is just so far out there. i personally would rather wait til a friend gets it and then when they get sick of it, i'll borrow it maybe.

Damn, bitter much? 360 doesn't only have shooters. In fact, I have more games in my collection that aren't shooters. It all depends on what you're looking for. Oh, and Call of Duty is realistic? Hah, no...Sorry, it's not to anyone who has actually fired a gun in a real combat situation.

Thats the other thing that annoys me with both franchises. Casual gamers or people who don't play these shooters for more than 10 hours a week have no chance when there are actually people out there who play 10 hours a frickin day for a whole year. People still playing Halo 3 now will all move over to Reach and you won't be able to get any kills if your relatively new to the franchise or are coming back from a break, its gonna suck to be in that situation, like I am

If the game wasn't designed to have the ability to aim down the sights then it really shouldn't make any difference. The feature really means nothing to me other than 'will I have to press another button before I shoot in game x or not'.
