So I know a lot of people will disagree with me but that's not what this thread is about. I just think that this is going to be what I (emphasis on "I") thought Fallout 3 should have been.. (I am a huge RPG fan but I did not like Fallout 3 AT ALL and I think this approach is the correct way to put FPS and RPG elements together).. I was expecting a lot of talk about this game after E3 but most game industry sites (GAMESPOT, G4, IGN, etc.) didn't really give it much props and it got overlooked by all the other great games coming out... I think this is going to be a sleeper hit, is there anyone else out there that's as pumped as I am about this game, or are their some out there calling "Epic Fail"?

I think so. FO3 disappointed me. This is definitely more action oriented than FO3, though. It's more of a shooter heavy experience with loot and RPG elements, where FO3 had shooter elements, but they were very heavily RPG-based. This combines the 2 more naturally, though, instead of dumbing down one or the other, which I felt FO3 did. Plus this has 4-player co-op. :) I think it could go either way, but I'm hopeful.

If you didn't like fallout 3 because it wasn't enough of an RPG, then you're really not going to like borderlands. It's basically a straight-up FPS. It does look really cool though and I can't wait to play it.

I seriously dont get why anyone wouldnt like fallout 3 I seriously think it is one of the top 5 best games I have ever played I mean my god you get over 80hrs worth of exploring and awesome shooting, and gore, haha what more do you want, I mean seriously It is soooo worth the money, most games cost 50 bucks and last 20hrs tops, while fallout will last you almost all summer if you do everything. How much did you play it, because it does kinda start slow.

oops I forgot to talk about borderlands, I am hopeful it will be cool, the plot and gameplay elements sound awesome, especially with all the varieties of weapons, so who knows, I know i wont be suprised if this game kicks a$$, I hope its like fallout 3 but with a little more action.

Yeah, FO3 was good, but I wish they had been able to add a few more things. Things like becoming a ghoul, a custom energy weapon (makes me SO mad....) and it gets too easy after you get past level 18.... I am really looking forward to borderlands, I will just be playing splitscreen w/ my bro and I might not even look at reviews.

Okay, I am on the Borderlands hype train. I haven't been sure about this game, but the more I look into it, the more I desire to play it. It will have to wait until next year probably, bucause I have Demon Souls and Uncharted 2 in October, and Novemeber is too packed. Maybe for Christmas.

To qualify for the "sleeper" part of sleeper hit a game has to launch with relatively few people aware of it, and then it grows by word of mouth. Borderlands has had plenty of coverage, grabbing magazine covers, videos on Marketplace, previews at gaming expos - so pretty much anyone that would be vaguely interested in the game knows it is coming soon.

I hope Borderlands turns out to be a lot of fun and a big success, but there is one major problem with it - launching a multiplayer shooter less than 3 weeks before Modern Warfare 2 lands. MW2 is simply going to drag players away from virtually every other shooter, atleast for the first few weeks, which will have a big impact on any recent releases that haven't established large communities themselves.

Yeah,Fallout 3 is one my favorite games of all time.Hopefully Borderlands will do the same.Although,if it does good,it really won't be a sleeper hit at all. It's already well recognized.

when i first played Fallout 3 i hated it. i was like man i cant believe i wasted 60 bucks on this game. but after a few hours i fell in love with the game. and i always thou it would be better if it had Co Op. so when i hear bout Borderlands i got uber excited. and Borderlands its been my Most Anticipated game of the year since then.

I think Borderlands is a safe bet; it'll get good reviews. It'll be better than Fallout 3 in some ways, Fallout 3 will be better in others. Borderlands is more a shooter with rpg elements while Fallout 3 is more of an RPG with shooter elements.

Borderlands will be better in terms of shooting mechanics and controls. Unlike Fallout 3, in Borderlands you can look down the iron sights of your gun to aim. Borderlands will have a much wider variety in weapons, other gear, and enemies. Enemies don't scale to your level in Borderlands. You can't max out all your character's skills in Borderlands. This forces you to make choices/think, gives you a chance to vary how you build your character, allows for differences in multiple playthroughs, and makes it so everyone's character isn't the same. Borderlands has vehicles, allows you to respec your skills for a price and has varying environments including desert, snowy, and alien areas. Borderlands has more quests although they're probably not as deep. Borderlands has thousands of different shields to find although they don't alter your appearance. The map in Borderlands will be bigger. Borderlands has bosses that can be fought repeatedly. Unlike in Fallout 3 you can't fast travel from anywhere to locations you've discovered but have to teleport from specific locations. Borderlands has co-op and pvp muliplayer. Whether you hit an enemy or not in Borderlands is based on skill alone and not a dice roll like in Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 had deeper quests, and deeper stories. Interacting with npcs was deeper with dialogue trees. The environment in Fallout 3 was more interactive, you could pick up alot of different stuff although alot of it was useless. Fallout 3 allowed you to switch between first and third person perspectives. Fallout 3 had armor as opposed to shields, although there weren't many different kinds of armor to find, it did alter your appearance unlike the shields in Borderlands. Fallout 3 allowed for deeper character customization. This included your appearance, SPECIAL, skills and perks. Fallout 3 had VATS. You could fast travel from anywhere in Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 had one open map, while Borderlands has multiple connected open maps and later areas need to be unlocked

Both games have great looking graphics but Fallout 3 was more photorealistic.

Which is better is a matter of preference.

I love Fallout 3, and I'll probably like borderlands as well. Since they share many similarities in settings and are both classified in the subgenre of FPS/RPG hybrid, I guess comparisons were inevitable, but I believe they are two very different games. Fallout 3 is an rpg that uses some light fps elements. Borderlands is an fps that uses some light rpg elements.

Yeah, it might not be a sleeper hit now that a lot of people know about it. It is still sorta getting overshadowed by all the bigtime sequels coming out because it's a new game.

I would not describe the game as a Sleeper, on way too many gamers wish list. Game will be great as long as they aren't releasing it needing a patch or two.

When I buy games I just don't consider that their longivity warrents $60...the experience should beenjoyable, which FO3 for me was not.I was hyped for FO3 and after 19 hrs of gaming, realized I just didn't enjoy the experience. I kept playing, waiting for something to pull me in...but it never came. Why didn't I like FO3? Boring overworld (thats my opinion, deal with it), uninteresting story, terrible levelling systemand whole exploration aspect was a snore. I really enjoyed the VATS system, but thats about it. HOWEVER, I could in the end understand why others loved the game...it just didn't appeal to me, and others (for possibly other reasons than I mentioned)

Now, this isn't at knock @ tpeezy, so don't take it personally..it's a general response to the "I can't understand why people didn't like FO3, it's like a 10000000 hrs of gameplay" question.

Sleeper hit for sure. People who read gaming mags and web sites know about it, but average joe gamer doesn't. This game will pick up steam once its out and will sell a decent amount almost for sure. I predict 300,000 units sold in the first week, then 1 million by years end.

I don't know. This is actually a question I want answered myself. There's a great bit of anticipation behind it, so if it ends up being awesome, I'll have to persuade three of my friends to go out and get it.

Yeah, It'll probably take some time to build up a following through word of mouth. Since it'll be good it will sell, even if it gets overshadowed by all the big sequels and doesn't sell as much as it should.

It sure gets more recognition as days pass. On Steam its in the top 5 best sellers, just behind L4D2 and Risen, as well as in the 5th in the top 10 games for Gamefly. Sure it doesn't mean anything but it sure show the game is finally getting more recognition.
