A friend of mine bought a refurb and hasn't had any problems. Personally, though, I wouldn't ever buy a used console, as I like the experience of taking a brand new one out of the box ;D New electronics smell great. Just make sure wherever you buy it from has an extensive return policy.

Its not worth it. keep saving for a new one. As I bought a brand new one and it broke the second day. if you buy a used one your screwed when it comes to warranty

Having worked at Gamestop I can safely say that buying a used system is risky business... a game is no problem, check if it's scratched - if not than it's alright... but a system is different, the only thing we checked to see is if it turned on and some random game worked on it. That does not check and see if it suffers from many other common problems relating to consoles, on top of that people could trade in a bricked system with no online capabilities whatsoever. I would say buy new IMO, it's not that much more expensive and much safer.

I bought a used one from someone and it stopped reading discs a month after i bought it. but the warranty on it was still good, so it's currently being fixed, you would just have to go to the xbox website and see if the warranty on it is still good. thats what i did. but it would probably be better just to get a new one though.

yeah second hand is sound, but buying 2nd hand is only as good as the warranty your given. if they been sold a defective console then ur going to notice probally in the first 2 months , in uk they still giving 360's 2nd hand a full years guanratee ontop of anything microsoft offers. so if u can get a year then its good. if its only 2/3 months i wud just goto somewhere where they do a year or get one for new if u cant

I bought a used one off of ebay and it red ringed months after I picked it up but was still covered by M$'s launch warranty. So I sent it in, bought a two year warranty from M$ and am still covered under the three year RROD warranty. no problem.
