I see no problem with it.

It is annoying though when people hide when they are winning or when some idiot is just sitting somewhere for 10mins and holding up the game.

It's a cheap tactic that I don't find exciting unless it's a sniper map and everybody is playing as snipers. This reminds me of the Ghost Recon Island Thunder game on Xbox. Players would leave during matches because people would camp at spawn points.

Sure... though annoying at times it's an obvious tactic.

I think camping in the same spot for 30mins straight or an hour straight is pretty dumb... But i dont mind is the sniper camps somewhere, then gets a few kills and moves to anotehr spot and goes at it again.

Just part of hte game

Yeah, that game was a lot of fun and I was really good at it. My favorite gun was SA-80.

IMO it's a cheap tactic, but at the same time you can't blame anybody but yourself and team if you get stuck in that situation. As long as people stay away from glitching or real cheating, I'm cool being on either side of the boat.

Depends to the degree of camping; it doesn't bother me too much if someone runs out then baits the enemy to chase them down and then the original player camps somewhere sneaky to ambush the chasing player. Cause i do that all the time its fine.

But sitting in one spot for an entire round waiting for someone to come past is rather boring not sure why people do it that much... ehrrhh so i guess it is a legitimate way of playing an FPS game online.

depends on what you mean by camping, if i run inside and wait at the side of door with a shotgun when someone is chasing me, thats fine. if i wait at a door for 15 minutes, then no i deserve bad rep.

As long as your no camping out at a spawn point, I have no trouble with camping. If you went through the trouble to find a decent gun and a good place to trench yourself into, then you should be rewarded.

Also with a littel bit of team work and self sacrifice campers tend to be easily dispatched.

What is wrong with you all? Of course it is a legitimate tactic.

Is it boring? Probably after a while. Is it annoying? Almost certainly. Who do you blame? Your team mates if you have any. As long as you play a game where winning matters then you will find people going about it the most efficient way possible.

Camping has been since before Quake II. It wasn't hard to counter then and it isn't hard to counter now. Different games have different tactics. For instance in Counter Strike all you have to do use a little bit of team work and you'll have that camper turned into the new wallpaper. In the Halo games I've found that slow moving rockets won't hit the sniper but they'll force him to fall back a little giving you plenty of time to ambush him.

Just remember these key points:

  • No sniper can hit two people coming from two different places.
  • There is always bind spot.
  • If they like camping in tight spots add grenades.
  • If you can, use team work to keep a steady stream of bullets on them.
  • Use cover.

Camping is fine, but only if your guarding an important objective. Spawncampers should be banned. Thats why i dont play fps games where you respawn.

Depends on the game - rainbow six vegas attack and defend - the defenders NEED to camp - and they need to stick to their posts and use good communication! Lack of camping in that game causes the defence to fail - people leave their posts to go find people to shoot and it leaves holes in the defence.....defenders lose.

Halo 3 for example is not a camping game - its fast paced mash up game, requires more timing and a bit of luck!

I have this friend Joel...he was the worst third man in and camper ever when we used to play Bond so we coined the phrase "Joeling". It is when two people are fighting and one jack*ss purposfully hides and waits until one or both of them are hurt and then springs out to get both kills...while Joel would say (in his nasally voice) "It is a viable strategy". He would almost never win any matches because he would not leave his spot for anything. God...that was the most annoying thing ever and we all relished killing him. What a husk and waste of skin.

To me this is the worst and most annoying form of camping (even worse than spawn camping).

I'm gonna have to say it is totally legal. If it wasn't, I'm sure they would have put some sort of kick system to that player standing/sitting in that corner for longer then 10 seconds.

I honestly don't see how people can camp. I don't have near enough patience in a fast paced game to camp. i.e. Halo 3, etc. I get bored after about 30 seconds.

I think camping is counter productive, I do alot of sniping in games but I find the best way to get alot of kills as a sniper is to move all the time around the map that way noone can really pin point you as well you can tag along with your team mates.

I find people who just camp they kill you but when you come back to life you know exactly where they are so much easier to kill them.

So my advice is one kill then move.

If you have the shotgun in TS in Halo you would be an idiot not to camp.  Get the shotgun, play defensively, be stealthy and your kill/death ratio will be extremely good in most cases.  I play with too many people who get a bunch of kills, but play so haphazardly that they end up with a negative kill/death ratio.Submit

it depends on the game, camping in halo is unacceptable. for games like cod4 or something, camping is understandable.

spawn camping is by far the worst camping of all to me. the only "ok" time to camp is when you are defending a objective.
