Is component HD or not?

If i plug in my xbox component cables and flip the hd switch on the back is it in the highest lvl of HD or do i have to buy and elite and plug in a HDMI cable to play in 1080p, currently i'm playing 1080i

Component, while yes, HD, only displays up to 1080i. For the 360, at least.

If you want to achieve 1080p on the 360, you have to use HDMI or VGA.

Theres no point to 1080P on the 360 anyway, it's all upscaled from 720P.

In fact for the 360 it would probably be a better idea to go 720P over 1080I, 1080I on the 360 only adds interlaced artifacts and 1080P is just upscaled 720P with no added detail.

Why is there no point to 1080p on the 360? it does have some 1080p native games and on a 50"+ 1080p screen screen there is still a difference between an upscaled 1080p image and a 720p image trust me I have had a good look

Simple answer here.. Component goes as high as 1080i and Hdmi goes as high as 1080p.. However , if your tv only goes as high as 1080i there really is no reason to go spend your money on getting an HDMI cable .. If you already have component just stick with it..

Even after the right answer is posted, people here still post wrong info.

360 will output up to 1080p on HDMI, Component or VGA. Your Tv's resolution, inputs and input capabilities will ultimately determine what you get.

Thank you, I saw this and was wondering where the hell he got his information from. Yes, look at the back of the game case and it'll tell you what resolution the game natively runs at. Anyone who ever tells you to run 720p over 1080p on the properly equipped tv really needs to do some researching of their own...

From experience, my xbox is hooked up with component cables and is outputting 1080p on my tv....so yes, it does support 1080p....

Exactly! Component does do 1080p but you have to have a TV that will do 1080p through the component ports. My tv does and it's excellent! You do not need HDMI cables to get 1080p, just a tv that supports 1080p through the component port!

All true except the PlayStation 3 does not support 1080p over analog.

component can do 1080p the only difference is that is through an analog connection and hdmi is a digital connection. i used component and switched to hdmi. very little difference but if you nit pick you can see it
