Is Dead Rising's save system really that bad?

I'm rather interested in this title, but all the research I've done seems to indicate that the save system is almost fatal to an otherwise really fun and interesting game.

Now when they say that it only allows for one game save, do they mean you get only one save file, or that you can only save your progress one time? Both sound pretty annoying but the latter one would be practically intolerable. Then again, since the game seems to be only three hours long, and you have the option of starting over with your current stats, I don't suppose it would be any different from Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, which I happened to enjoy immensely.

I'll be picking this game up regardless, but I'd like to know what I'm in for first.

You get one save file per profile, which doesn't bother me. Then during the game you can save after cases are close, or you can save at ANY bathroom in the mall. The save system is great for the game and makes it a lot more intense and makes you actually care about not dying (as an example, I didn't care when i died in Bioshock)

Ah, good. Thanks for the info. Sounds like it'll take some getting used to, but like I said, so did Majora's Mask.

The only reason gamespot said it's bad is because sometimes you could end up saving the game at a really bad time, such as right before the next mission starts and didn't leave yourself enough time to travel to where that mission begins. If you don't get to the mission on time it may be harmless, or it may completely end the story. I'm lucky, because I have two different storage units (hard drive and memory card), and you're allowed to save one file on each one.

Fuunny yoiu mention that game, I just got thru beating it tonight. Very fun game. I got well over half the achievements done for it now. i still think i'm going t o play thru more of it just to tryr and get more achievements before I move on to another game.

Sorry for the sh**ty typing, but my laptop's keyboard is really screwing up.

The thing to remember about Dead Rising saving is that you have to be smart about it. For example, if you are trying to save someone and it is taking way too much time and it looks like you are going to be substantially late to your next scoop, do not save and try it again. This game tricks you into trying to bite off more than you can chew so that you will not be able to make your necessary scoops on time, but you should definately pick this game up as it is incredible once you get a hang of it.

i think the save system is excellent. it gets REALLY incredibly frustrating though, there have been times where i'll be playing for like an hour, and then i'll die trying to get to a save point and lose all my progress. but as someone else already said, it makes it more interesting. in other games if you die, oh well, but in this one it really matters, and i think that's a cool idea. although i'm glad it's not like that in every game..
