Many people who played Oblivion would see the similarities and like Fallout 3 a lot.
I personally loved Oblivion but hated Fallout 3 for various reasons... mostly the combat.
I say try it, perhaps you can rent it.
Edit: It feels a lot more polished than Oblivion, the dialog is better, and you get to make some interesting choices throughout the game.
They're nearly the same game, but I like Fallout 3 better. Like Oblivion you can get to 75h easy without being bored. I didn't play any game but Fallout 3 for like 4 months. Get it. You won't regret it if you liked Oblivion.CanesFan5Thank you, I'll rent it for sure, I'll prolly end up buying it, it looks great.
I prefer oblivion because I think there's more to do, and I like the inclusion of spells. however, fallout 3 has better atmosphere, story, graphics, humor, and characters (the oblivion characters by comparison are pretty much cardboard with the exception of glarthir). Oblivion is also more solid, I felt that fallout 3 had a lot of glitches in the game, and the expansions aren't anything to write home about, especially operation anchorage which was horrible (as opposed to the shivering isles, which is completely amazing).
but yes, if you are a fan of oblivion, I'd invest in fallout 3, there's no way you'll hate it. just don't get the operation anchorage addon unless you become a huge fan.
Fallout 3 is essentially a marriage of the best parts of both the Elder Scrolls and the older Fallout games. If you like Oblivion, you'll like Fallout.UT_WrestlerIt didn't bring much other than the setting from the two Fallout games. It lacks in all the departments that made the Fallout games what they where. Not to say it's a bad game, but it isn't Fallout. Fallout 3 is a walk in the park and nowhere near as deep or entertaining as the originals. And yes, it is very much in the footsteps of Oblivion.
