This is not always true. The game may not be as good as its predecessor but still can be a great game, and if given the right circumstances for that perticular year it may very well win game of the year.

First off, Gears MP isn't trash. Secondly, GTA IV is the most overhyped and overrated game in the history of the world. And third, the only game that can and probably will beat GeoW2 for GOTY is Metal Gear.battlefront23

My personal GOTY: Ninja Gaiden 2, because I played it for about 300 hours, and it's the most addictive game I've had in a long time.

The ones I think should be GOTY candidates: GTA IV, MGS4, GoW2, Fallout 3, LBP  (No Ninja Gaiden 2 because of the camera issues and punishing learning curve)

 The one I want to win GoW2 because I enjoyed it the most, and because I'll be playing it for longer than I have GTA IV and MGS4.

The one I think should win: GTA IV, complexity, depth, epicness, and variety and achievements in the online and offline departments, especially when it leaves itself enough room for a badass DLC comming soon.

In my opinion, it's way better than GoW1 due to the fact it's not a shotgun/bullet lag/host advantage fest anymore.

The teams are more balanced because you don't join any room were there can be a group of gamers who have been playing together for nights and days.

And most importantly, the weapons are better balanced (expect for the torque which is really cheap in GoW2--easy to aim, blows you up if it barely hits you cover, and doesn't kill the shooter if you blow up next to him). The smoke frags, are even more usefull, and my baby glock is not cheap either--GoW1 = 3 quick random shots under a 1 sec and then a melee attack would doing.

 GoW2 has more modes, more varied maps, bots, Ranking and Player matches that actually allow you to still get achievement kills, and Horde is awesome.

I wouldn't say the MP is trash, by any means. But how long it takes to get in a match, and the whole matchmaking system as a whole, is unexceptable. I've been in numurous games where in the lobby, it's 5 on 3, yet the match still starts. People then quit. It's BS. During matchmaking, the game claims to be "looking for opposing teams of similar skill", then, you get in the lobby and realize your team is you (lvl 2), teamed up with 4 lvl 1's (who have played less than 5 matches) against a team of lvl 3+.

If the game is gonna take that long to find a match due to it's ridiculous search filters, the least it can do is do a decent job of it.

As far as Gears being Game of the Year. I just don't see it. I loved it. But it was short (again), and didn't really have anything too great about it. It didn't FEEL like something big.

GTA IV will likely win GOTY. I'm not saying it should. But it likely will.

I agree with u 100% about GTA IV being the most overhyed and overrated game ever. That game getting a 10 is just ridiculous. As for Metal Gear, i have yet to play it. To the originial poster, gears multiplayer isnt trash. The only prob ive had with it is sometimes trying to find an online match could take a couple of mins but when im in a party with 4 other friends i get into a match in seconds. Gears 2 can definatly still be GOTY, and IMO i think it should be.

Whatever happened to caring about the singleplayer/campaign/story mode? :| Bioshock won plenty of GOTY and it had no MP whatsoever. Same with Half Life 1 and 2. Or are you trying to say that those games do not count?codezer0

I'm not gonna bother re-typing everything I tried to say. But the point was "Yeah, GOTY is more about the Single Player aspect of the game." With that being said, Gears of War 2 certainly ranks up there, but not the best of the year.

Personally, I love the game, the new acheivements, and the great multiplayer experiance.

Saying this, I've never played Gears 1. So, with a big skip in gaming choice, that payed off.

By the way, anyone reading this that hasn't got the game yet, for the Golden Lancer (Freakin' sweet gun), get the special edition or limited edition. Whatever it's called.

I like the multiplayer. It's not trash you just proberbly can''t play it. It's something I hear all the time for my mates who can't get to grips with it online.

I think it could get GoTY but theres a lot of competion, I personally think Metal Gear Solid 4 was a lot better.

I don't like Gears Of War 2 multiplayer either, however I can't drop so low as to say its trash.  Gears 2 should definitely be nominated for Game Of The Year, but there is fierce competition for that award this year.  Other games I feel are worthy to be nominated & have a chance to take it as well are Left 4 Dead & Fallout 3.  Not sure how I would pick it, most likely my hand would have to go in favor of Fallout 3.  Will will just have to wait & see.  Later & Good Gaming!!!

...... I have been playing multi non stop since release.....It is without a doubt the most fun I have had with a game in many many years, i honestly havent touched the cmapaign, so I cannot say GOTY one way or the other, it is one of my favorite games of all time, because it expanded on what I loveed about gears 1 (the multi) and streamlined the entire expierence. 1,2,3,5 people searching is close to instant, for some reason though do not try and join games with a party of four, the game doesnt like that......

I dont see hwo peoeple are tlaking about fallout 3 as GOY, THAT is Garabage, it will most liekly be GTA4 (because its multi console) as opposed to metal gear though

gta 4 thats funny  the missions sucked come pared to the old ones  dodo same god dang thing over an over  kill kill kill kill kil, SA was btter  the missions was differnent the missions wasnt all foces on killing someone like 4. it can win for graphics but nothi else
