So i know firefight is going to be co-op (and awesome :D) But is the main single player going to be co operative, because some of the best times i had on halo 3 were playing campaigb co-op :P
Yes the campaign is co-op. Up to 4 players I believe. So in the open world portions of New Mombasa, you can all set waypoints on your map to see where everyone is and try to coordinate attacks.

Well good thing I already have four buddies getting the game on Tuesday. Impossible shouldn't be a word in Bungie's vocabulary...
It's just the way the Halo 3 campaign coding is. They would literally have to make a different version of ODST in order to have match making. It's not something you can simply patch.
i dont think anyone should worry about lack of matchmaking, if you are really finding it that hard to get some friends for it, just play some halo 3 MP, find some people and then ask them if they wanna play firefight. shouldnt take too long to find 3 eager people
