Is HDMI even worth it on the 360 if I already have 720p?

I have a 720p television and it has an HDMI port as well. Now, from what I know, I can't find a HDMI cable that's made by microsoft so I'm assuming that they don't have one. Also, what's the difference between HDMI and 720? Is it even a big difference? Or should I not waste my money on a third party cable that will look the same as my already 720p.

you can do what i did and just get a used CHEAP HDMI cable. I got one at this used game store for like $5. works just fine. and that allows you to keep your component port open for something else. i didnt notice any difference on my 1080p LG, so i'd say get a Cheap HDMI cable or just stick with the component cables. Hdmi is easier to hook up and looks slightly better, but not by much.

tc, you should buy hdmi. it will still be in 720 if thats the highest your tv goes. buy i online there is some that oost like 5 bucks.

also are u using component right now? hdmi will do 1080 if your tv supports it and it has better color than component.

A HDMI will usually provide you with a better (sharper) image and sound but you won't notice that big of a difference on 720p. Just go on amazon (or somewhere else) and buy a cable for less than $20 (I got mine for $5). Since a HDMI signal is digital, it doesn't matter if the cable is cheap since the picture will still look good.

If your running at 720p, it will pretty much look the same. The only good part about it is that is carries a digital video AND audio signal. Good for surround sound.

it is worth the purchase so long as you dont get one of those cables that cost uwards of £30,,,they you can get a good one for a fiver

And a quick note to the dude who said it'll get you 1080p,,,so does component and not to mention the 360's games are only made in 720p so even if his tv does support 1080p he'll just be looking at scaling up rather than true 1080

Component 1080p and HDMI/DVI 1080p are not the same.

Things like Blu-ray and HD-dvd wont work with component 1080p and a lot of TVs can't even display component 1080p.

But this does not matter, OP's TV is 720p.

Quick note: Most TVs don't support 1080p through component cables. There are only two I know of and they are from a couple years ago.

Anyways, to the OP: go to newegg.com (best electronics website ever!) here are a bunch of HDMI cables under $10. I have the Nippon Labs one which works great :)

Yes its worth it... You'll get richer colors and better detail in the shaded areas... I had two boxes hooked up 1 component, 1 Hdmi. you'll notice what I'm talking about if you try this yourself.

I did it just 3 days ago, i recommend you to do it, in image quality you won't notice the difference, but you'll carry audio on the same cable and that means less cable mess, and that allows you to get surround sound.

I get this from amazon the cost jus $3 and works really nice:

Its a few $, and even then, the image boost is huge. In fact XBOX 360 games look better on a 720p, as 1080p TVs will mean some form of stretching hence degradation in image quality.

YES. Long story short, I'd been running Component Video for a long time; then last time I was on vacation w/ my girlfriend, she got herself a new tv that had HDMI input on it, and it too was 720p; she also got the cable when she bought herself a new dvd player. I hooked it up to the 360, and even at 720p, I was just WOW! with GTA4. The colors were much better, and the graininess I used to see was gone. It really is worth it to get the best connection possible for your console(s).

Alright, but ask this again. Does Microsoft have a HDMI cable or are they all third party?

They sell an HDMI kit, but the biggest reason you'd need that is if you wanted or needed to run your audio out through an alternate source... like if you were using the composite A/V on the breakout box to plug in some headphones, or either the RCA-style stereo audio or digital audio out to a home theater receiver separately. If you're able to go with just HDMI for both audio and video in your setup, then any HDMI cable will suit the purpose. If you're in that situation, there's no need to pay any more than necessary for the cable.

There is a an easy fix around it.
