i heard alot of thing baout how u shouldhave ut 360 which way do you guys think is better for the 360??hbk_shane_4life
I think it's best to have it horizontal, but if you do sit it upright never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever leave a disc in ti when you turn it off. When you turn it back on again, the disc grinds hard because it jerks it as it starts up and my belief is that caused my friend's lens and motor failure (which isn't covered under the new 3 year extended warranty). Flat is best.

agreed. when contacting their support for sending in my 3rd unit i spoke to a tech on the phone. since my disc drive was no longer reading any games or movies, he wondered if i had moved the unit while it was reading anything. i told him i had not and asked whether or not it was preferrable to be placed horizontally. he said that it was indeed preferrable.i like it flat too because if you put it upright then you never know it could fall over and break or something. so i just leave it flat.
In vertical your blocking the air intake, wait, the ONLY air intake the 360 has, all other holes are to let heat out. Horizontal is a must. If you put your hand on that side you can feel it, make sure it is unobstructed. DullBozerFirst off, the 360 does not have any "intakes". An intake is like what car engines have that actually SUCK IN air to the unit (or engine for cars). The 360 has a seriesof air holesall over the machine, and a fan that blows/sucks hot air OUT of the machine. No intakes. With the machine horizontal, you block a lot of the hoels on one of the sides. If you have it vertical, you block the lot on the bottom (gray part). Conclusion, it doesn't matter which way you have it. If you weren't supposed to have it one of the ways, MS would not put the rubber pads on both sides.
I have mine horizontal. bc i have 3 ferrots and 2 dogs that play around it. also i just got in the habbitof siting up horizontal here is my setup
....ms would probably prefer you to leave it vertical....more broken 360s means more money for them....ipath4lifeQuite the contrary. MS has to pay for all the broken ones due to the 3 year warranties for overheating. The problems are costing them a fortune. They would tell you what way to put it if it made a difference.

That is correct. The same could be said about throwing it out the window or taking a shower with it. It goes under, be careful around it and don't be a cluts. If your 360 is not on the floor, it should never be able to be knocked over. Ifthe 360 is in a safe place for an expensive electric appliance, andit is still getting knocked over, maybe that person is not mature enough to own one. With that, the TC and others are talking about the safety of either position from a cooling standpoint.I have mine horizontal. Microsoft don't care what way you have it so long as it is either horizontal or vertical.Thorpe89Exactly
I'm lost.... My 360 broke today from overheating, can I just ring the help line to get it renewed or do I have to sign up or something???

Take a look at the inside of the system, the right side is the only side that takes air in, through the cpu heatsink, which is pushed out through the fan in the back, since the cpu is located on the right side, and that the left is closed because of the DVD drive. Thats what i mean by "intake", so keep it horizontal and the right vent clear.\
