Ok the first game system i got was a playstation. I loved it! I had tons of games, same with my ps2. but then i got an xbox and got into halo so i got a 360. And ive begun to notice there just isnt that many franchises that interest me nemore.

i like fable, halo, gears of war, grand theft auto, guitar hero, and fight night,

halo 3 just came out last year, gta iv just came out, and all of the series have games coming out this year (excluding fight night round 4 which comes out early 2009).

now guitar hero and fight night will always keep making games for those series, but im wondering if ill even stay in interest for 2 or more years for the other series to come out with games.

is it just me getting older and bored with other games or are there just too many companies focusing on reality and graphics now so games arent fun.

oh ya im 16 btw.

You are not old.

And In my opinion, games have been in a slow fun-bleed since this generation crested. GTA 4 is the epitome of this, they've over-realized the games. I play games to escape, not to sit in my apartment and watch virtual T.V.

Although I think I might be missing your point, are you saying that there are simply too many games, or that the quality of games has gone down?

im just saying that games r not as fun as they used to be. i mean i used to just go rent i game that looked kinda cool for my ps2 and have fun with it. now i rent a game and i dont play it more than the first day. the only games i buy now r sequels to older games that i kno i will like. but i get what ur saying about gta 4. my friend told me the driving in gta 4 is realistic. idc about realistic. i dont play games for reality. i live in reality.

You're not old at all. I'm 22, still heavily addicted and I don't even consider myself old. I think you just haven't found the right games. Quit going with the hype games, and try and find some that may interest you. I'm not a huge Halo or GTA fan either...

Try Bioshock, DMC4 ... games you may not normally try.

Always stretch your boundaries. I thought I hated RTS games, yet I am currently addicted to Medieval II: Total War. As the poster above me says, try playing games you would not normally.

i'm 21 and have lost alot of interest in games. I have all AAA titles for xbox 360, and basically i play them once and put them in the pile. I have no incentive to back and play multiplayer/another playthrough etc

could be stress related issues though, which might be ur case

i even just got my 360 back from rrod and it sitson the shelf...

I go through phases. When I was 16 I used to play as much as I could. Of course that's when the Genesis was first released, so I'm dating myself a bit. These days I still buy all of the consoles, but I don't put more than at most one hour per day into playing games. I still enjoy them, but in a different way.

i agree, i'm not having as much fun with games as i used too. the past few games i've rented i play for a day or two, and then i just get bored of them and don't feel like playing them. even GTA IV, GTA is my favorite franchise, but it just got really stale after a while and i still haven't even beat the single player. i mean, it really is amazing how realistic it is, but it's just not the same..

I'm with you, I have been feeling the same way and I think it is because the games just don't have that fun factor like they used to. I thought maybe it was just the system I had, but the same feeling is there now that I own all 3. It really has been a chore to finish games I own with the exception of GeOW, Bioshock, MSG4, Uncharted and Super Mario Galaxy. Which is sad considering how many games I own.

Growing up may have something to do with it, but in the end it's just because they don't make games the way they use to they just aren't the same.

I agree. Stretch your boundries. After all these years of these violent games such as Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Halo, GTA, and every other shooter, I never thought I would get back into platformers. I recently played Mario Galaxy and I was blown away. I couldn't put the wii-mote down.

Before the violent games era, all I did was play crash bandicoot games, Gex, and other platformers...One day I borrowed FF7 from a friend at school and been into RPGs ever since.

Before that..well I think I was too small to understand, I just played on the Genesis what I got for birthday and christmas.

But today, I'm half-tempted to pick up and start playing a survival horror because I haven't played one since Resident Evil for the Gamecube. who knows? maybe I'll be hooked onto them this Gen.

I'm 34...an old man. I go through phases. Won't play much at all for a few months, then I'll get hooked on something for awhile. I don't play marathon hours anymore really, but I still probably average an hour a day give or take. My 1st system was the Atari 2600...and it was so much fun back then. Looking back, the most fun I ever had was probably on the good old nintendo and sega genesis. Graphics suck compared to todays standards, but they did seem to be more consistently fun. I don't think it's your age, you're just a young buck...it's the games.

LOL ya...adding a 3rd dimension to gaming really makes the game that much harder to make it fun to play. Come to think of it, I don't even remember a Genesis game I ever owned that I didn't like. Maybe that's why.

I currently own an xbox360 and enjoy the realistic shooters that I have missed and generally not been interested in the past generation. However, I am similarly becoming disenchanted with games on my 360. This might not be the right place to make this recommendation, but buy a Wii (of which I am a happy owner as well)...you'll be refreshed with the kind of innovation you will see on that console. I know that even though I might be losing interest in games as well, I know that nintendo will always provide the kind of interesting ideas as well as the nostalgia of their famed franchises in games on classic consoles you have obviously missed. Bottom line, if you want something new, it wouldn't hurt to try the Wii. Hey, you might lose some weight in the process!!!(I'm not making any judgements at all, really...):)

not sure i can take you seriously... my first system was the Atari 2600. For goodness sake it had wood trim, which they should totally bring back!!!! I agree in a sense in that their is to much focus on reality based physics, graphics, gameplay. I would suggest playing some fantasy based games in the future. There are some great role-playing titles coming to the 360 this year. Tales of Vesperia, fallout 3, fable 2, star ocean eventually.

I'm nearly 36 and I started out with a Magnavox Odyssey that I got second-hand from an uncle in 1979. I didn't get my Atari 2600 until 1980 because my parents couldn't afford one. My favorite system was my Genesis.

I'm a lot like you. I go through periods where I won't play games much at all, then I'll get hooked on something (GTA IV) and I'll play every day. My longest session in the last few months has been 3 hours.

Total war is not RTS: C&C/AOE is RTS.

The older I get the less games I want. Right now the only games I want for the rest of the year are Madden 2009, Fable 2, Gears 2 and maybe Saints Row 2. Come to think of it 4 in 6 months sounds about right for me.

like Mau-Justice said, try something new. you seemed to have gotten the idea that the franchises you play are the only good ones out

and im 17, only one year gap, and i would be just as bored if i never tried anything new

not all games are going for realism either, the only games that really are are shooters and sports games

try games like: mass effect or bioshock, or if u want a real new experience there are games like Prototype or Too Human coming out that you might wanna to, just try stuff; dont be close minded

Having the same problem and I'm 15. The games I have are mostly AAA, AA, or A titles. CoD 4, Halo 3, Tomb Raider, Orange Box, NHL 08, Forza 2, PGR 3, C & C 3, Paradise, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Dead Rising, CoD 3, Pantload of Arcade games, Gears of War, and Bioshock. I've been playing games on the PC since I was 3 (AoE, Commander Keen, Doom, etc) and now all of the games seem the same. The only one that I really like right now is Civilization Revvolution Demo and I think that is because it is the closest thing to a PC game on a console. I wish I could upgrade my computer, but I can't since it still uses AGP technology.

A litte while back I had to take a step away from gaming for a few months. It was just getting to me. Most of the games there were (are) coming out are all just clones of each other. I was getting very jaded towards gaming and instead of going the drastic route, like I was planning. I just ignored gaming in general.

I Stopped reading previews and reviews. Stopped watching trailers and looking at screenshots. Stopped following news stories. Basically stopped anything that had to do with gaming. Good thing I didn't sell my stuff, because I started playing again about a month after that.

Best bet. Just unplug your stuff, pack your games up and put them in a closet until you're ready to play again.

I'm 21 and still addicted. But e same thing happened to me a few years ago. It's probably cause you're having other interests and all. And like someone else here said, you're burnt out. Eventually you'll probably get back to it, you just need a little break. Your concern (posting this topic) shows that you care about games, so you won't be giving them up, you just need a break. nd if worse comes to worst you'll just go back to playing ps1 games, which were superb, especially the rpgs.

16 isn't grown up, but also I barely consider 21 year olds adults either. It's all your mind set, if you don't like games anymore then your taste has changed, not your age.

Dude I hate to say it but you may be losing interest in games. I am 21 years old and still can recall the very first Nintendo game I played in 1992. As you grow older it true that you may not have enough time to play games, but enjoying the times you eventually do is a very solid goal to achieve.

Ok the first game system i got was a playstation. I loved it! I had tons of games, same with my ps2. but then i got an xbox and got into halo so i got a 360. And ive begun to notice there just isnt that many franchises that interest me nemore.

i like fable, halo, gears of war, grand theft auto, guitar hero, and fight night,

halo 3 just came out last year, gta iv just came out, and all of the series have games coming out this year (excluding fight night round 4 which comes out early 2009).

now guitar hero and fight night will always keep making games for those series, but im wondering if ill even stay in interest for 2 or more years for the other series to come out with games.

is it just me getting older and bored with other games or are there just too many companies focusing on reality and graphics now so games arent fun.

oh ya im 16 btw.

str8_messy

I've been gaming non-stop since 1983. Never for a day have I ever thought about leaving gaming for something different due to feeling "older". I have known many who just get sick of video gaming and need to take a long break, maybe you are one of these people? Try a different hobby for awhile, then come back after a long break from gaming. You might be shocked and amazed to find out how much you missed it.
