Honestly, I cannot stand for the life of me Japanese style games.

First of all the story is over dramatic, with cheesy awkward dialogue, and a terrible unbelievable story line.

Second, the main character is usually a male lead that resembles a feminine 15 year old "emo" kid. But they try to make up for his lack of masculinity by giving a deep voice or an extremely over confident attitude.

Third, I am not sure if it is Japanese culture, or some other motive for making every accompanying female protagonist, or antagonist a super prosty. And to drive these characters home they have them "kick butt" or battle in impractical revealing combat attire. Honestly I don't buy games just because some lady shows tonnes of skin and her parts are bouncing all over the place as she moves.

Fourth, the art form. The whole cartoony, monstrously huge eyes creeps me out. Let alone the male characters are dressed usually like cross dressors and females like strippers.

I know this does not cover all Japanese games, but a large majority of them. If they do not have all these characteristics they at least have one of them.

I'm not being prejudice, I just want to know if I am the only one who despises this game **** or is there something wrong with me, which I highly doubt.

Here's a simple response... Just steer clear of JRPG's and Anime based games and your set right?

I don't mind them, in fact I actually enjoy them more then most of the stuff we get here.

I meant anime based games like Arcana Hearts. Or like anime based games like Rosario Vampire and crap like that. Where its just anime looking toons with no rpg elements.

Ditto completely. Americans and Japanese generally have huge differences in their taste of games. For example, a Famitsu readers poll in 2006 determined their top 10 games of all time. On the list were 4 Final Fantasy games and 4 Dragon Warrior games. Americans on the other hand choose game like Resident Evil 4, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Tetris, Halo, and GTA 3. The difference in taste is obvious, and I am happy to be on this side of the Pacific. The Japanese still produce some great games though. Mario, Zelda, Metal Gear, etc.

And Mass Effect as a believable story line? Same with Oblivion? Even with shooters like Gears of War (the 1st one didnt even have a story). I normally don't like believable stories because then it is like watching reality.... and that would just be boring. Because it is believable depending on your opinions. To someone CoD4's story line could be unbelievable.

I also Agree with the person who said you are stereotyping their games like crazy.

Ever played Dead Rising? It was made by Capcom who IS A JAPANESE DEVELOPER, but totally westernized, eh? How about Lost Odyssey. Those people don't have giant eyes or even crazy chicks with bunny ears. And really i could list almost anything Capcom makes... DMC4, Lost Planet, and more that have fully not giant eyed people, but do have unbelievable stories, JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER GAME. Also i consider Japanese games to be games made by the Japanese. That means if Bungie made an RPG exactly like Final Fantasy (characters and all) then it still wouldn't be a Japanese game. Thing about clothes. Ever see the movie 300 (or the graphic novel)? That is not what the spartans wore... Do you hate that?

Thing about the art. Have you ever seen japanese cosplayers? Have you ever had trouble figuring out if they are guys or girls (say they dress like Cloud so the clothes are revealing)? And you must really have not played too many western games because how many elf strippers have there been in their games. Kingdom under Fire (honestly have no idea who the developer is) or even the dancing, partially, naked elfs in WoW.

And you cant say "i'm not being prejudice" and it actually be worth something. That is like me saying "no offense" and then saying i hate your shoes. It just doesn't work... if you really meant no offense then you wouldnt need to actually say it.

there's one thing that Japanese developers usually do better than Western developers; and that is animations... Most western games have choppy animations and unbelievable transitions that make the characters appear fake. I wish more attention was payed to how the characters move, like the japanese developers do...

i agree with the 16 year old emo male but if its a chick its a chick its 1 with the rack so big you could fit bowling bowls in there (you coudn't really get them in there but you get what i mean) and a rack is like magnets to metal for a nerd...

I hate the Anime-style Mirror's Edge cutscenes. With gameplay graphics so amazing, they should show them off more.

I mean some JRPGS have wierd characters and cheesy story lines, but if you think that encompasses the whole genre, you need to see the entire genre for what it is.. and theres alot of diversity in there. Valkyria chronicles and Lost Odyssey are completely different games. The former takes a realistic look on war while the other is set in a fantasy world. And thats all under JRPGs.

Very much. I find the Japanese culture to be very refreshing at times.

TC, I can name a few animes that go against your description. Black Lagoon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ninja Scroll and Evangelion to name a few. As far as JRPGs you have Valkyria Chronicles, Lost Oddesy, Shin Megami Tensei and Suikoden to also name a few. The cutesy anime that you are talking about is only 1 of the many different Japanese art styles. You may prefer Shonen or Seinen (seinen is more realistic) I will agree that the emo teen, bunny ear alien eyed anime can be annoying to watch at times but I love me some anime boobs. ;lol:

I found a link that explains a little on the art ****that you was preferring to. Funny where their ideas came from eh?

Yes those games have a believable story, they actually draw you in, They are Sci fi, or fantasy but still believable because the plot lines are not conviluted by poor dialogue and addition of over the events which attempt to draw you in by there magnitude, but are still unbeliavable.

And i said, not all Japanese games embody these, but most have atleast one of the charecteristics i mentioned. And with regards to stereotyping, I am not because i did not say ALL japanese games are like this. but a majority.

And dude, its my opinion, and what i think, i just want to see peoples thoughts without someone get all menopausel on me.
