Yeah. It's a very good game. And I could get how someone who got to play the game early, for free, could give it very high scores.
But so far what i've experienced is a wonderful next gen look on the old GTA formula. I haven't seen the amazing living world that reviewers claim to have seen. It's still a virtual world with dumb AI characters and low res textures on buildings that I would have liked to enter. I've always thought the GTA "Open world" was only semi-open. For instance I went to the comedy club to see a show.
What can I do there? I can sit, in one booth. The same one very time. A dozen chairs and I can only sit in one place.
To do what? Watch a cut-scene. I can't do anything but sit there and watch it. I cant even heckle the show. When the show is over. I walk up to the bar to get a drink. And I cant. I have to go to the bar in a bar. before I can get a drink. Then I see this girl sitting alone on a chair. I walk up to her thinking I could try to pick her up. And you can't do anything but stand there.
Incredible life like world? Yeah right.
In Fable you can walk up to any woman and try to chat her up. Sure it's a simple system. but even adding a system as simple as the one in fable would help a lot. Maybe that option wil open up later. But so far the "socialising"aspect that gets so much praise is very limited.
Also the radio isn't as funny as I had hoped it was so far. The radio in GTA 3 was still the best in a GTA game so far imo.
In GTA4 the only joke that I've hear is "republicans are stupid" in a billion variations
Yeah that's great. Now tell me something else. Again maybe this will pick up later. But so far I'm disappointed. I think they should have Hired Matt Stone and Trey Parker to write the radio commercials and TV shows. Or get the daily show writing team to help out. Even "unfunny" south park and daily show jokes are better than what i've seen and heard in GTA4 radio and TV shows so far.
The single player dialouge is great though. That gets a 10 in my book.. TV and radio. not so mutch.
Maybe I'm being harsh. But come on it's GTA. I hold the games to a high standard. And so far, while it's a great game In it's own right. I see a lot of missed opportunity's.
The thing I hope for in DLC is content that livens up the city. Give me the opportunity to walk into a night Deli when I'm low on health and buy food. Let me go to the airport on a whim and pick up fares. After i heard one cab driver brag about how he picked up lady customers at the airport and got them to give him an extra special thank for driving me gift in a motel room *wink winknudge nudge.* I wanted to try the same. And so far no luck. You cant even go into the airport. Again you are stoped by a wall of low res textures.
I just want them to get rid of those walls so I can actually go into those places.
I have a lot more problems with the game. But The living world one is where I realy see a disconect with the reviews and the game as i experiance it so far.
Again maybe it wil open up more as I play more. Please Log In to post.
