Would this be fine to keep dust away? My last xbox got red rings and when I opened it, there were a lot of trapped dust. What else can I do to prevent dust? thanks

When it's off, sure. Just don't leave it on when you turn on the console.

Someone accidentally left the cloth on for 3 mins of play but would that even cause any permanent damage? This just happened like 30 mins ago btw.

You are overreacting.

3 mins won't burn your console.

No disrespect intended, truly, but why would you even buy an Xbox if you were actually concerned about covering it with a cloth while it was off? You could set a toaster on it... as long as it was off.

I really don't understand all these horizontal or vertical, is it okay, is it not okay threads every day. Play the damn thing when you want, turn it off when you're done. Take care of it as you would any other $200 piece of equipment you purchased and value.

Fact is, it's man made, sooner or later all things return to from whence they came. Time spent worrying is timw wasted when you could be playing.

That having been said, is it okay to prop my couch up on one side with Xbox, I mean, I'm not playing it...

=) Sorry mate, just a bit of levity.

"Of all the Xbox games I've ever played, that was sure one of them."

Just take care best you can, that seems a bit extreme.

One thing you should never do is move the Xbox while the game is in. That's the perfect way of making the console scratch the disc.

I had a cloth over my phat xbox 360 for a few years when off. Kept it dust free, but when the warranty finally expired and I opened it, it was squeaky clean inside, so stopped covering it.

You won't (stastically speaking) have any issued with the slims. That being said, covering it with a cloth when off isn't a bad idea. As for playing with the cloth on, get yourself into a habit of putting your controller on top of the cloth when you're done playing. When you go to turn it on using either the console or controller, you'll end up staring at the cloth beforehand. Harder to forget then.
