Or will that increase it's chances of breaking?

It does have a heat sink problem if I'm not wrong. It's best not to let it heat up too much in my opinion, though I could be totally wrong.
A buddy of mine got his rroded elite going and then left it on for a week straight just to play while waiting for his box to arrive. Make sure it is in the open and cool. Yes the week long thing did happen. He never did send it in as his girlfriend just bought him an arcade that week.
what? what does his comfort have to do with the durability of the console?Only do what you feel comfortable doing.

Well he's asking if he can leave it on all day, so if he doesn't feel comfortable doing it then maybe he shouldn't do it?

....:| ill repeat, what has his comfort level got to do with the ability of the console to stay on for extended periods of time?only a little worthy hahaWell mine stays on all day many times a week. No problems as of yet. Although, it's probably worthy to note I'm on my 5th refurb from Microsoft. ;)

if you have the jasper chip. then i would say it would be safe. if you have the old chip i wouldn't recommend it. if your just downloading stuff it wouldn't be a problem i do it all the time
Use common sense. Anything that is left on for long periods of time is more susceptable to breaking down. Plus your raising your energy bill even more. Turn it off. It's not that serious. Save your game and save money on your electric bill. And most importantly you won't get the RRD if you take care of your system and don't leave it on!
then again it doesnt really heat up until you run aa game, so i guess if no game is running then maybe you can leave it on all day.
Im curious if this can by any chance damage the tv. I do this to charge my headset and controller when I dont feel like playing. The tv is recieving a signal from the xbox as the cords are plugged in, but its only using the signal from the tv cable since it's in that mode. Is there any reason this could be bad or my tv?
I think there's a trigger inside the 360 connected to a block of C4 and if the console is turned on for more than 24 hours, it blows up. Same goes for a console ban and RROD. Keep your chldren and pets away from your 360 and while you are playing please play from a good distance away and wear a protective suit. I think the new xboxes will have less C4 in them in order to not kill too many people when nathal comes out and everyone will be playing it.
But seriously, I know a guy that had it on for weeks at a time - his xbox was treated like a server, when he stopped playing he just turned off his tv and let the xbox on.
I thought the 360 was a electronic device...my bad.The 360 is a mechanical device. The more wear and tear you put on it...well, the more wear and tear you put on it. If you're leaving it on all day for no reason, then don't; no reason for it. You wouldn't leave your car running all day.

Oh look, a nitpicker. I'll save you the trouble going to Wikipedia, copy/pasting the definitions of electronic and mechanical devices, and therefore making another meaningless post. I'll just revise my post, and try to make it more nitpicker-proof:
A 360, like most any complicated piece of equipment, contains moving parts that wear out faster when the device is on, as opposed to when it is off. Shutting your 360 off when it is not in use, along with proper maintenance and care of handling, will invariably prolong its lifespan.I should have
Is that good? Any commas out of order or anything else that doesn't in the slightest affect the point I'm making?
EDIT: Whoops! :o Had a typo up there! Better fix that right away...

What moving parts? Unless you are ejecting the disc tray all day there are no moving parts. You can play the games from the harddrive. When you are not playing games, nothing moves at all. You could leave the 360 on indefinately and not wear anything out. What moving parts? Unless you are ejecting the disc tray all day there are no moving parts. You've moved from nitpicking to just being flat out wrong. How do you not know that computers have moving parts? Really, how do you not know that? Saying an Xbox has no moving parts unless you eject a disc is like saying a car has no moving parts unless the wheels are turning. Well, it's not that bad, but it's the same concept.
Okay, I'm going to stop being condescending and start being informative:

Yes, computers have moving parts. Harddrives have moving parts, and cooling fans have moving parts. Somebody that knows more about hardware might be able to point out other similar devices in a 360. Moving parts, by the fact of their motion, will wear out faster than if they were stationary.
