Is it safe to leave a new xbox 360 on 24/7 365? Since they fixed the heating problem it should be fine leaving it on 24/7 365?

Will probably be ok for a few days at least if in an open area... Depends on what you do with it... Simply leaving it on, sure it will last 365 days... But gaming most of the time, it will probably only last a few days before it shuts itself off... Thermal paste and heatsinks can only absorb so much heat and once temperatures get so high, the system will power down to prevent damage...
i wouldnt do it. my 20 gig 360 died on me and so did my 60 gig ps3. ithey both got over used i think from me playing games all nite and family watching movies all day. they said the ps3 was built almost perfect. but nothing is. everything needs a rest imo
the only appliance i leave on 365/24-7 is the fridge. That and maybe the A/C for the summer. but to leave a video game console on EVERY day? Why? I think thats just asking for it to break down. maybe with the new fans it's closer to a PC that you can leave on for a few days at a time. but why waste the electricity too? that and the 360 produces heat, so your room will be kinda warm too. but the case is smaller, so i dont see how it will be that much cooler. a bigger case with more bigger fans would for sure cool it off more. i think its minor changes. my current 20gb xbox360 pro doesnt overheat, but i never leave it on for 24 hrs at a time.
I get paranoid its going to break on me if it manages to reach 4 hours continued use, i don't know how reliable the xbox really is.If your going to do it make sure you install the game. Can't you just like turn it off every few days for an hour?Couldn't hurt to give it a breather!
Go for it.At worst you will end up with a nice new black and shiny placemat.
If you are real lucky you might even end up with this:
If you're gonna do that for LAN play, I suggest you install the game onto an HDD. Using a DVD for extended periods can damage it. Also, the disc will produce less heat, which will lower your chances of hardware failure.Xeros606
It's quite safe to leave a computer on 24/7 and an Xbox 360 is essentially a computer. Of course the new Xbox is too new for anybody to know for sure, but I'd say it's probably fine. That being said, what Xeros606 says about the DVD drive is a valid point. While I'd say it's an overstatement that running a DVD drive for a long time damages it, all optical drives have a limited lifespan due to the fact that they have moving parts. All motorized devices eventually fail, and leaving any motor running will eventually cause it to break. If you leave your Xbox at a 360 dashboard versus running in "attact mode" in a game you'll get a lot more life out of the unit.

in Gods name, why would you leave ANY electronic device on 24/7/365???? youre just BEGGING for a failure of some type. onto electronic logic, just because you CAN do something DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD!!!! im tempted to ask is there a game in the drive, running? not that it would matter much but of course that would be absolute HELL on the laser. if perhaps it was a Digital Download game then it would make slightly more sense but still.....like i said thats a bad idea to begin with...I think I can assume that leaving any kind of electronic device on for that period time will not end up well. This is a funny joke thread though. :PElian2530Lots of people leave computers on 24/7, and for all intents and purposes, that's what an Xbox 360 is. Also, servers stay on 24/7. It would be unnatural for a server to not be turned on and connected 24/7.
don't so it all electronics must rest otherwise sooner or later will overheat, believe me it's a fact it can happen to any electronic device regardless of the design or the design of the heatsinks.
Why would you want to? I've also never understood why people think it's ok to leave PCs on all the time. It's a waste of electricity, not to mention the heat it adds to your house.
If your not using it turn it off, didn't your parents ever teach you that? :D
And periodically pour water on it to cool it downOnly if you cover all of the vents with a strong duct tape.

I would never say that it's "safe"... If you do it, then probably nothing is going to happen. Yet the consequences are too risky... I personally wouldn't do it, mainly because of the overheating and costs... Of course, if you do it, make sure you don't do it in a "please-overheat-me" area, which would be in crammed places where the Xbox has no place to "breath". Preferably, keep it all the other gadgets etc. in a 12in / 40cm diameter around it.
That's all I've got...
[QUOTE="Elian2530"]I think I can assume that leaving any kind of electronic device on for that period time will not end up well. servers are kept in temp controlled rooms due to the heat that they produce AND theyre heavily maintained, theyre designed to stay on for extended periods of time. and most people dont leave computers on 24/7 unless youre talking about the standby function and as close to a PC as you think the 360 is, its not. the 360 doesnt have programs based on maintaining itself without user input (defragging, debugging, disk checking, maintenance etc.) believe me, its not a good idea to leave a video game system, let alone any other electronic device on for such a period of time.
EDIT: also servers go down for maintenence which is what we see a lot on XBL and PSN so no, not even they are on 365 days of the year.

Server maintenance usually means software upgrades, security patches and network infrastructure maintenace as oppoesed to hardware failures. The only piece of hardware in a server environment that fails with any degree of regularity are components with moving parts such as the drives in direct attached storage, SANs or NAS. Fans also fail of course, but in a clean environment they usually last quite a while.
I have several Hyper-V servers along with a DC running on desktop class cheapo Intel motherboards with no special equipment outside of a UPS and I leave these boxes on for YEARS at a time without issue. With the last physical Linux server I had, me and some friends use to have contests to see who could get the highest uptime. My record was around 600 days without a single reboot (which admittedly means no security patches, but this was an internal server and it was a fun experiment).
Yes, you can leave desktop class computer hardware on for extended periods of time.

I leaved my pc on 24 7 365 so why not my 360.I mean really, why would you want to do that in the first place???

I leaved my pc on 24 7 365 so why not my 360.slipknot0129But what is your reason for leaving it on? I'm curious. If you're actively downloading something, that's one thing. Plus there is an option to auto shut down after downloads. I mentioned before, I can understand leaving a PC on 24/7, but why your Xbox? What do you gain out of that?
