[QUOTE="DumbDubya"]Honestly the $100 price drop for the Elite will likely have little effect.
The Elite is just a black ARCADE with a harddrive. There is no real advatange to having an elite and it's unlikely too many consumers were waiting for an Elite price drop when they ccould get the ARcade for $199 for over a year now.
The PS3 slim is not only a new design but it's the base model and it's the cheapest PS3 ever. It will get a lot more attention and is likely to sell more at the point, especially considering blu-ray is becoming more mainstream.

I have to agree with you about most of what you wrote. The fact is I am a launch 360 owner and I love our games. That being said the PS3 is an unbelievable bargain simply as a high quality Blu Ray player that also happens to play games-if you're into that sort of thing. It seems M$ should respond and so should Wii(how ridiculously priced is that device?). . . In the end, are you saying it is going to happen but make little difference? That is what it sounds like. I think it may happen, but if it does, I also think it will have a big impact. For instance, I will be purchasing an elite, if the price drops, rather than an arcade. I think many others feel this way too especially since my 20 Gig is too small and my console sounds like a buzzsaw. It'smy original one but I am getting a little scared it's going to die.Between the two, the PS3 slim is a better value at the price. I don't think any of us can deny that considering it comes with Blu-ray, wireless networking, and rechargable controllers. But Xbox's main attractivness is the online experience and the game library.
Micrsoft should have included the wireless adapter with the elite and maybe throw in a chatpad to make it a more attractive purchase.
The way i see it, the average consumer will continue to buy the arcade so sales won't spike. People looking to upgrade to the Elite will be gamers like us (the minority).
