I am finally upgrading to a 1080p set but I was going to buy the vga cables for the xbox360 for the new samsung dlp I am buying. hlt5076s, this tv will accept 1080p via component, but I heard that the xbox 360 does support 1080p via component. is this true? if true whats its limitations? I already have a toshiba hddvd player so I will only be using the 360 for games. will I get 1080p in all games that support 1080p and will it upscale older games to 1080p. should I go with vga insted? I really want to use the vga port for my computer but I can use hdmi or component for that.

It *can* do 1080p over component, its just that only about 3 tvs support 1080p over component, so for most its a no go. VGA will probably look better, but if your TV can support it over component then just save 40 bucks and use the component cables.

The 360 does 1080p over component with no limitations when it comes to gaming. I find my Aquos at 1080p over component looks far better than my Bravia did at 1080p over vga.

Depends more on your TV than your 360... keep in mind that I don't think it upscales movies unless you get the VGA cable. Just as a point of reference. I've got a 1080p television, and the VGA looks quite a bit better. If you've got the cash to drop on a 1080p television, I'm sure you can swing a couple more bucks for the VGA cable, now can't you?

My TV only does 1080i over component, and doesnt upscale DVDs then... I dont have a VGA input but I do have a DVI input... If I get the VGA cables and put a DVI adapter on it, will I be able to do 1080p then?

well its not about the money but I wanted to use the vga port on the tv for my pc so I can play on my tv vs my monitor. but if there is a noticable difference between vga and component then I will use vga, but I thought they where the same as far as quality

I have a 56" Sammy 1080p Dlp.  I bought both the monster component and the MS VGA cables.  IMO, the VGA is superior.

The 360 can do the games at 1080p over component. If you have the HD-DVD drive, 1080p movies for it can only be done over VGA. So, if you want to game and watch 1080p movies, you'll need the VGA cable. Does the HDTV support 1080p over VGA??

The 360 can do the games at 1080p over component. If you have the HD-DVD drive, 1080p movies for it can only be done over VGA. So, if you want to game and watch 1080p movies, you'll need the VGA cable. Does the HDTV support 1080p over VGA??b11051973

So, to clarify, 1080p for HD-DVD movies is NOT contingent on whether your TV can accept 1080p signals through component?  It is only available if you have VGA (or wait for the Elite)?

so since I am not using my xbox as an hddvd player my games will run in 1080p via component. only if you have a tv that will accept 1080p via component. Right? okay I am buying a new samsung coming out mid april that has 3hdmi, 1 vga 2 component and it will accept 1080p via component and hdmi and vga. and it supports hdmi 1.3. Here is the link for the specs via pdf http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/DLPTV/files/hl-t5076s_final.pdf What I ultimatly want to do is use this tv with my xbox 360 hopefully via component, PS3 via hdmi, HDDVD player via HDMI, Cable DVR via HDMi, Nintendo wii via component also and then hook up my pc via the pc port. Mu video card also came with a dvi to component dongle or converter. so the xbox can go either vga or component, but the pc will be hooked up via the other way. so which way would you go? I have the Geforce 8800 gtx video card.
