Well personally I do not pre-order games... I usually buy them or I rent them... But when I do pre-order is usually for the little knick knacks you get or what-so-ever... But if you just want the game... You do not need to pre-order...
I only pre-order if there is a limited edition copy. I also pre-order on games I don't care about reviews for such as Starcraft 2 or any Zelda. All other games that I am not too familar with I wait for the reviews.
Well in the uk at least there is no commitment when you pre-order in a shop. If you decide against the game, just don't go and buy it. In Game you get double reward points for preordered games, so I think you might as well preorder.
I havent pre-ordered a game since RE Umbrella Chronicles on play and it never arrived till 5 days after release date. I was pondering whether to get RE5 preordered in either Game or Gamestation but I can just run on my lunch break to get a copy so i'm not gonna bother.
Unless it's a game I want to take no chance on missing out on release date, I won't preorder games. Well-known or highly hyped games I can find anywhere really, but if it seems like an under the radar type of game which a store might not get many copies of then I'll preorder. If there is another Atlus game that comes out soon that interests me, I'll be all over it. I don't want to be in the position I am in right now looking for Shin Megami Tensei games. I know they are older games, but still...
I only preorder at christmas so my local gamestore dont run out of it before I get my hands on a new game. Just like what happened to the World Tour package.
I only pre-order games when it is a big release and they might sell out...and anyway if you buy online then you kind of have to if you want it on day of release, I used to pre-order from GAME in store because you get double reward points but online is cheaper.
Like what one of the above poster sed. If you pre-order a game from GAME and use your reward card you get double the points if you buy it within 3 days of its release, after that they release your copy for any1 to buy. so there is no obligation to buy it, but i pre-order games that i want just to make sure that they will have a copy that i can buy when it comes out.
For example, i've pre-ordered RE5, The sims 3 and Skate 2
