I own Madden 09 and am trying to decide whether or not to buy Madden 10. Some people tell me that it's a whole new game. Others tell me that it's a $60 update from Madden 09. Can I please get some honest opinions?

The graphics are crisper in this game including updates and expanded weather animations. Pro-TAC their 9-man tackling system and animation tree system is so impressive. Gang tackles actually exist. There is an actual pocket when you drop back as a quarterback. This game eliminates a lot of the dumb litlte cheap tricks that people were doing like rolling out every play to dump to a receiver coming all the way across the field. Madden 10 feels like you're playing real football (as much as you can on an Xbox 360 to this point). Online franchise is great.

Thank you for giving me an answer with real details. Everyone I've asked on Xbox basically screams MICHEAL VICK IS FAST!!! and then tells me to definitely buy it.

I'd recommend buying it as well, but a few caveats:

1) Blocking's still terrible - so you'll get burned on nano blitzes.

2) Passing's still heavily favored over running, it's a bit too hard to run the ball in my opinion (again, bad blocking hurts).

3) Franchise mode is problematic: they changed it from scouting having no impact to scouting having too much impact (I can find and draft guys in 4th-6th round who become 90 overall in two years, while I'm still paying them 350K on a seven-year rookie deal).

If you're mainly an online player, this is the most significant change in the game since it came to next-gen consoles, so it's definitely worth picking up. Just don't expect a simulation of real football.

I would rent it.
