Well I've looked at some of the me2 videos and have thought damn I've really missed out on something special here, so I'd really like to be into the mass effect game before the new one comes out so I can continue with my char from the last game into my new me2.. I loved fallout 3 although didn't enjoy the shooting element to it, mass effect looks to be a solid shooter and imo can almost be mistaken for a third person shooter..

Anyway I just wanted to see if you guys think if mass effect is still graphically impressive by todays standard of games? Also is there any annoying elements in the game that ruin the experiance somewhat I should look out for when I get the game?

Hello I'm just about to start ME so I can't say much, but to me from videos it seems pretty epic-looking. And the character models at least are top notch!!! Btw @ ur sig, I wouldn't change my 360 for a PS3 ever. :P

Yes it is. I'd hardly call it old graphically. Just turn off the grain effect and you really max out it's graphical potential. Looks alot nicer too.

Its my favourite game on the 360 still. The only thing that i would say hasn't held up is the graphics. There are just way to many technical issues.

Graphical performance is pretty mediocre (loading screens abound, texture pop ins, framerate stutter) but it's still a very good game.

you get over that though after you played it the first time when you suss how good the core parts of the game is to play, oblivion had similar graphical problems, but once ur hooked theirs nothing you can do about it. both games might perform better anyways with installs. you never know

To answer your question the game does have a few minor problems.

Driving the Mako absolutley sucks. It sucks beyond sucking. This makes completing some side quests and planet exploring a chore rather than an adventure.

Many of the environments are very similar. They lack variety and make planet jumping uninspired.

Character progression is strictly quest based. Meaning the only way to make progress with the games NPCs (the ones you're traveling with) is to complete a mission in the main quest so more dialogue options can be opened.
To access the map you have to pause the game.

Inventory management is handled poorly. When you start your 2nd play through, this will be a major problem.
The games autosave doesn't autosave enough. This isn't a problem on the lower difficulties (you'll mow throw enemies) but it can be a problem on the higher difficulties. Sometimes your squad AI isn't the best and the brightest.

This can be overlooked though. The scope of Mass Effect is impressive. The Characters are inspiring and each have great back stories. Seth Green is in it. The Normandy rules. And the main story is an instant ****c.

To my knowledge, there have been no major advances in the art of WRPGs since the release of Mass Effect, so yes, it's still impressive.

The technical issues aren't impressive, it can slow down terribly in combat. But strictly talking about the way it looks, it's still a very nice looking game. Just turn off the film grain effect.

Same here. It's an amazing game, however it is not old. In my opinion KOTOR is an old game but it is still better than a decent amount of new games.

What I think Mass Effect does very well in is the facial animation and top notch dialouge.

Mass Effect is a great RPG, and one of my highest rated games on 360. Definitely worth picking up, and you should have enough time to play through it a couple of times before the sequel later this year.

The main quest is a lot of fun. The side quests are about as generic as they come, and they get old pretty quick. Other than that its only problems are technical issues like framerate drops, loading times and texture pop in. It's still definitely worth playing at least once and if you can look past the technical stuff then you'll probably like it a lot.

I thought it was pretty good and I didn't play it till a month or two ago. The only thing I didn't like was that it fealt a bit clunky and the character customization could been a bit more robust. Probably the best RPG I've played in years though.

I bought the game for $60 played till I could visit planets then set it down for more than a year. Didn't start playing it again till I saw it for $40 and it is amazing once you get into it. It does have a lot of problems but the good out weighs the bad. The fights are mediocre compared to other games but are fun with powers. non main mission planets become boring even on your first play through. The story is just amazing you spend most your hurrying to kill things to get back to conversations. Enemies on harder difficulties are not tougher they are just more annoying they spam their special abilities which just takes them 3X longer to kill.

Buy this game you will not regret it.

Also find a Krogan named Wrex he will be the main reason you love this game.

I just started playing it because i felt i missed out. Its beautiful. More than a game its more like watching a tv show where the dialog is interactive and the action is playable. I say that game maps out an early blueprint of the future of entertainment.

Loading screens? Mass Effect does not have loading screens. In fact, that's the reason for the texture pop in that happens sometimes (and relatively rarely at that). I also never had any framerate problems. It's a great game, just make sure you go into the video options and disable the Film Grain, it looks better without it.

After reading all the hype and reading/watching reviews about the game, I thought I would give 'Mass Effect' a wirl, so I rented it one weekend.. After scratching the surface of the game 25 hours in, I can honestly say that it was an intersting experiencing.. Unfortunatly I just lost interest in the game due to the combat system, but I'm pleased I made the effort to play part of 'Mass Effect' as I'd been inquisative about the game since it's release..

If your thinking about playing 'Mass Effect', you should certainly check it out, especially if you enjoyed titles like 'Knights Of The Old Republic'.. The leveling up system is interesting, the story is extremely deep, whilst the universe is huge.. Unfortunatly it just did'nt float my boat, I think I'll stick to F.P.S titles.

The game was a work of art in terms of a beautifully crafted universe, excellent story, well developed characters, and a rich back-story. Solid gameplay mechanics to top it off

It will be impressive for years to come.

I enjoyed Fallout 3's shooting more than Mass Effect's. Although it was ok, it didn't feel like a solid shooting mechanic to me, mainly because the player movement was a bit clunky at times. But in the areas of character dialogue and storyline, Mass Effect is definitely on par with modern titles.

Never say "by today's standards" when you're talking RPGs. Imo the Final fantasies are still the best RPGs, (plus chrono trigger/cross), and they are obviously not equal in graphics to today's games but gameplay, story, and overall feel makes them 1,000s of times better IMO.

The graphics are great 90% of the time. The other 10 of the game you'll suffer texture pop-ins and the occasional frame rate drop, but these didn't bother me very much. Overall, one of the best games on the 360.

I liked Mass Effect, but thought the combat system was it's biggest flaw. I think they will have it fixed for Mass Effect 2 & 3.

The graphics are still pretty, but thats not what you should be playing for. Would you not read Lord of the Rings just because the pages are starting to get yellow?
