Ok, so I bought a new XBox 360 arcade w/ a jasper chip a few days ago...

the only game i can afford atm is mass effect, so i have been playing the crap out of that game... im about 15 hours in and loving... however it seems to freeze maybe 5 times a day... it wont give any warning, it will just freeze out of the blue... no pixelation or anything like that in the screen... just a perfect still image.

ill touch my xbox and it will be cold... not hot at all..

is mass effect just buggy or is something seriously wrong?

I am pretty sure it's just the game. I lent my friends my copy of mass effect a few weeks ago and he said it froze on him a few times as well. He just kept saving and once he progressed far enough the freezing went away.

could be doomed. after me harping on so much on the main page and being a total x-box 360 fanboy my console is playing up with the gamepad. the gamepad is telling me it is almost out of battery power when it really is not when you look at the dashboard screen. it has been displaying three bars out of four, well above the minimum required for it to be almost a dead gamepad.

i guess i will just say that i experienced problems with my ps2 as well. i was standing up and sitting down there attempting to boot my ps2 over and over again thinking... jesus... are little green men responsible again?

Are you using rechargeable batteries?

no. i am grateful to microsoft for having a wireless gamepad because what it also was doing was disconnecting from the console time and time again. if it had of been wired i might as well been at the freakin' gym.

The same thing happened to me. It turned out that the batteries were going bad. They're only good for a number of chargers before they start going bad.

no. i was using rechargable batteries but i checked just before and there are only non-rechargables in the gamepad.

seriously. i swear echelon or little green men were emulating my ps2 and are emulating my x-box 360. how is it in smackdown vs. raw 2009 i can defeat kane in just over five minutes by using such simple moves? i did not even piledrive him or nuthin'! i was sitting there thinking, this is unbelievable... really.

I wouldn't say your box is going to hell quite yet, I haven't had intrest in Mass Effect so I haven't played it. I would call Xbox customer support and ask them. Reguardless of them getting a bad rep, Customer support is always the best way to figure out if something's wrong. Think about it, they loose money if they have to replace your xbox, so they are gonna do everything they can to make shure to see if your box is running normally or not.

That may fix your problem, alot of people get less bugs once installing on the HDD.

It shouldn't freeze that much. The Jasper chips definitely run the system cooler but sometimes, especially when it comes to hardware, it wasn't assembled correctly and isn't working properly. Since you just got it a few days ago, it should still be under store warranty. Just exchange it for a new one there.

the x-box 360 having faults is becoming all too common on this site, which should not surprise me. i was saying yesterday that i still like the console despite how faulty it is across the board.

Don't worry, Don't worry. The game has sooo many bugs that freeze it. It's unbelievable. It has so many crashes in that game. It's still a great game, none the less. Anyway, mass effect 2 has some of those bugs fixed, but sometimes still has the same problem.

It could easily be the game. I remember I had freezing problems with Splinter Cell Double Agent and Oblivion and a friend of mine had a few problems with Mass Effect. Personally, I installed Mass Effect to my Harddrive hoping to speed up load times and reduce texture pop-in, which it did.

it is the game. the game mass effect 2. if it is freezing five times a day? you installed it on the hard drive but i thought you had an arcade x-box 360? if it were me i would be wanting to fall asleep for a few hours than to call microsoft or contact the store where you bought the game then sort it out with them.

i do have an arcade 360, but i bought a hard drive for it... its the original mass effect. i swapped consoles today and so far everything is going smoothly... other than the fact i forgot to copy my save file to the hard drive so I have to start over... but i dont mind that if i dont have the freezing problem.

that was a tricky one. i was going with the others in saying it was the game but it seems now it was the console. i am still sticking with the game but time will tell as to whether i and the others were right.

i still think it is the disc, mass effect. since a few years ago stores like eb, k-mart... they have all tightened up on their return policies. i remember the day when you could buy a game and if it was faulty, you could get your money back or exchange no questions asked. that has changed. eb did have the week trial period on their used games, but i think that has now ceased or is occassional.
