There is definatly similarities but gow has a ton more detail and much bloodier.

Bloody? No, not by a long shot. "Much more technical" is the easiest description for me think of.

The only bloody thing in gears is the chainsaw. Other than that it is just really really gory.

sorry, by bloodiness i mean dismemberment of body parts, blood squirting out of exposed sockets, etc.

I just beat the game on the 360 and it worked perfectly fine for me.
