Is NXE even worth it?

With the upcoming dashboard update, we will be able to load our games on to our Xbox 360 HDDs.  The thing is, will it actually make a difference?  When I first saw this, I thought "Cool, I don't have to get up and walk over to my 360 and swap out disks when I want to switch games."  Now, I've found out that you still have to swap the disks out, and the only difference is a small amount of load time.  Now think, will it actually make a difference?  In most cases, the game would have loaded by the time you got back to wherever you were sitting anyway.

The only noticable difference is, you have 5+ gigs less on your HDD.  Since I found that I still have to get up and swap out the disks, I'm not actually looking forward to this as much

Now, I like the Netflix integration that lets me watch movies with my friends, but other than that, Microsoft shouldn't have outdone themselves.  This update is a way to sell more HDDs, and add Mii's to the 360 so that little kiddies are happy.

Anyone else think that this update is just a gimmick to sell HDDs?

No. I can't wait for the new update. It looks much more visually appealing than the blades and much easier to navigate. You forgot one major thing the installs help with, and that is noise. The 360 sounds like a lawnmower.

I haven't heard much about it, but it really sounds like a dumb marketing ploy. I'm not sure if they plan on charging people for the update or not, but either way I really don't intend to download it.

its not mandatory to install a game.

i think it is going to be awesome. i cleaner look, everything is more organized and easier to find. the new party system is going to be awesome since u can play practically anything without having to keep inviting them. it is going to be cool.

I HAVE to download something that will take up 5g of the hard drive that I paid for, in order to play the games that I also paid for? If that's truely the case, then I guess I'm going to cancel my XBL and sell my crap on eBay.

My big thing on the installs is less noise and since I only ever play one game at a time I'll be constantly uninstalling and installing games. The noise on my Xbox 360 bugs me. You need the disc so they know you bought it though.

guys relax, your misunderstanding the post. Its typically around 5GB for a game to install. To install NXE its only going to be around 130MB. It does take up space on your HDD but not nearly as much as you think.

besides, once you get your hands on it I'm sure you will enjoy it. It looks great, everything is easier to find, it has a great party feature and a lot of other cool features. Just give it a shot.

No, no, no guys. The update itself doesn't take up 5GB of your HDD. It takes up a small amount of the 6GB of dedicated space that you can't use anyway. You won't miss it because you don't have it. What the poster was talking about when he said it cost you 5GB of space is the space it takes to install games, which is completely optional.

Personally I'm really looking forward to this. There's much more to the NXE than just the installation option. As for installation, it probably will only be of benefit for older games with relatively long loading times. So for Oblivion, it will be a good thing (this is the only game I plan on installing), but for say Fallout 3, not so much.

i really dont see how improving the system makes it a gimmick and what you mentioned isnt the only stuff thats improved. its a whole new overall look that is more appealing to me plus you still have the blades. plus a bunch of new stuff on the dashboard and its all for free so why complain. people need to stop trying shoot free improvements down. If a stranger walks up to you and asks you if you want some free money you def arent gonna turn it down.

Its free and easy to use. You are not losing anything by downloading the nxe update. This being said you are not even taking a chance of losing anything great by trying it.

Exactly... why get all mad about something thats optional, it's not forcing you to upload your games onto the hard drive... the onlything you're changing is the dashboard... that's it... does it affect you that much??? get over it

Either way you still have to get it anyway (unless you never log on I guess).

There was a tech demo (can't remeber the link) that showed that it does shorten the load times. And the reason you still have to insert the disk is to make sure you own the game.

Yep that's the reason I want it, so I can play games in peaceful quiet.
