I never really got into that game and gave up after about 6 hours or trying to force myself to like it after everyone said it was amazing, so if i didn't like that is there any chance I will like Oblivion?

two completely different games, your comparing a 3rd person, random encounter turn based JRPG, with a First person WRPG, Oblivion is amazing regardless if you like FF or not

A comparison between FFX and Oblivion should never be made, they are two different games entirely. Nearly everyone I know loves Oblivion, though for some people the the incredibly open world has been too much for, I can't imagine how they would react to older Elder Scrolls games, but I would guess that you'd like Oblivion, it's really hard not to.

Brilliant, I didn't know much about it apart from the fact it's meant to be amazing, so kind of thought it may be a bit like it, cheers for the help I will pick it up soon!

Why don't you just rent the game and see for yourself? You said that you got FFX when everyone said it was amazing and didn't like it. Everybody so far said that Oblivion is awesome, what if you don't like it either?

I like both games fine, but I'd put Oblivion on a completely different level.

Oblivion is worth it for every facet...period. It'll consume over 100 hours of your life, and that's actually almost a guarantee.
