I found Rainbow Six Vegas to be the best shooter for 360 offered last Christmas. Gears is a great game, but I found the online components in RS to be way better than those in GeoW. My gears collects dust and my RS gets played almost daily still. Definitely get both.
The online in Vegas gives you something to work towards in terms of ranks, and it offers clan support, too. The levels are really good, and you will often times make friends with the team you are on, and will pull some very cool stuff. I'd reccomend Gears for a single or co-op adventure, but Vegas OWNS in terms of online. There's just more to do.
