After playing the Stranglehold demo yesterday, some thingsgot me thinking. For instance, why do you never have to reload? Another, how is magically healing yourself a special move? Even more, why is everyone out to kill you in this market. Also, why do highlighted objects(poles, stair rails, etc.) look like they got, ya know, secksd on? This game lacks polish and felt to me like another cheap movie liscensecash in. The AI basically just stands in one spot and fires they're guns at you until you die or you kill them. Why can't you aim over cover instead of around, it's unlogical! It's just an arena game with, for the most part, bland environments. The slow motion is awesome but there needs to be an option to disable automatic usage(what???: Make it so it only activates when you click the right button. It's so tedious because when it engages automatically it drains the bar so when you, THE PLAYER, actually want to use it you can't. Like if you had a nice, refreshing Sierra Mist that you were saving for when it got hot, and I come up and pour it down your throat. You would f***ing kick my a**, wouldn't you.Another dislike, the camera. The camera in this game is just horrible, it's so slow, I guess to help you aim(which is why there's a autoaim that you can't disable, which will point the crosshairs at enemies even if you want to point at an explosive propane tank, alot of which are in random markets in Chicago(i thought it was in Chicago, but everything had asian characters on them so i guess im stupid).). There are so many flaws but I'll try to wrap this up quickly. To me, this game seemed like it was making fun of the movie that came before it and mostly all action genre movies. How? The no reload thing. The, heroe kills hundreds of enemies thing. The, convieniently placed health packs, flipped over tables, random wheeled carts to jump on, and enemies that just appear. I had a lot of fun playing this demo, but so many flaws in the demo alone make me never want to see another John Woo movie, let alone Chow Yun Fat movie, again. Buuuuuuuut...I did finally DL and play the Bioshock demo, and I was really impressed, the only weak spot though: no big daddy battle. But I did get to see the Big Daddy smash a guy into a wall, twice, and thenthrough the window in front of me!:)

Feel free to, A.)Agree B.)Disagree C.)Flame or D.)Complain like a baby about how it's too long and boring!WHAAAAH!

Alright me mates(none of you are my mates), gah night to yah.

I liked the arcade action of Stranglehold, and I'm buying it for sure, but all games look "small" when compared to BioShock. God, that game is godly.

The thing about Stranglehold is it's complete lack of depth. This isn't a turn-off, it's actually what makes the game so appealing. This game is easy to pick up and just play, without worrying about plot. The game is basically a cheesy action flick in video game form, so the AI isn't going to be the greatest. In fact, the AI seems identical to the intelligence of the bad guys in some of these films, which sort of adds to the whole experience. They stand right under signs, right next to propane tanks, ready to destroy in a stylish fashion.

Stranglehold is definitely not your average shooter. Less than perfect graphics, less than deep gameplay, less than immersive story, but what I've come to realize is that Stranglehold is more than the sum of it's parts. I didn't give a crap about revenge, I couldn't connect with Tequila. I shot people because it was fun. Fun, something some shooters overlook nowadays. I'm a huge fan of shooters, don't get me wrong. It's just, when it's all said and done, some shooters are just...interactive movies. You go through the actions, but at the same time it feels as though you're just watching the game go by. With Stranglehold, the gameplay is unique enough to engage your brain, the story is satisfactory enough to connect the gameplay segments together, and Tequila is just badass enough to entice cheesy cop movie fans (just saw Rush Hour 3 not 5 hours ago what can I say).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Stranglehold is a nice break from the more popular shooters, a game that you can play for 15-20 minutes and stop, without feeling like you've been cheated or robbed. A very nice pick-up-and-play game that I will most definitely be picking up.

Auto Tequilla Time can be disabled in the options menu.

You can make the camera go faster in the options menu by increasing the Horizonatl and Vertical speeds.

Also the Stranglehold Demo rules!

Lol what he said. If you look in the options menu, you can actually disable or tweak alot of the things you have problems with. ;)

Yeah, you make some good points. I just couldn't get around the fack his name is Tequila. That is the first time I have heard a Chinese person be named anything like that. And the voice acting is pretty bad. I do like that it feels reminiscent of Max Payne and all the destructable environments are cool. The precision shooting is pretty sweet too. But I wonder how long you can go around shooting so many people like that. I just think that the game will make me roll my eyes way too many times.

"Also, why do highlighted objects(poles, stair rails, etc.) look like they got, ya know, secksd on?" dude wtf?

Ahem anyway it's not supposed to be realistic, it's supposed to be like an action movie. You don't see an action flick for the deep plot, you go to see **** blow up. And sometimes that's all you want.

As for Bioshock it was too bad you didn't get to fight a big daddy, but I wasn't really surprised seeing as it was the beginning of the game. If Bioshock had MP it would absolutely destroy Halo 3.

Strangle Hold is fun - its supposed to be over the top, and violent.

Have you seen Hard Boiled or The Killer?

Hell the demo is best played on Hard Boild mode - much more intense and satisfying.

Oh yea Bioshock is like no other. Amazing stuff...

That's it precisely. The game is meant to be a sequel to Hard Boiled. Now, if you watch Hard Boiled and complain that Tequila mows down all kinds of foes without reloading then you're a fool.

awful, I was expecting it to be a max payne clone, well it is.... but its a really really bad clone. It looks terrible too, looks worse than max payne 2 (pc)I'd go as far as to say. This game is rubbish, and the cinematics are unwatchable, especially so considering how awesome Hard Boiled was. Why they have even bothered to have chow yun fats voice is a mystery to me considering hes speaking english in this rather than chinese like he is in HB. Just a sad missuse of a well respected actor/director/movie's name. Fail.

And the multiplayer looks knowhere as good the Specialists Mod for Half Life 1. That is THE John Woo gunplay game in my opinion. 8)

Why is everyone comparing this to the max payne games? cause they both have some form of bullet time?i dont remember max running up a pole and shooting air conditioners and making them fall on peoples heads  or having any kind of destructible environments. But anyway i think the demo was decent its just a fun pick up and play game its not made to be a goty its just your regular action game with some new things added. its just a game thats fun to pick up and play when ya feel like blowing crap up or unloading on a bunch of guys for no reason. Dont think i would buy it but id give it a rent. I thought it was pretty fun and i could use precision aim all day long that never gets old:P

Stranglehold is like a good ole action movie (well it is based off an action movie). All the game is supposed to do is deliver brainless action packed game play and it does that very well.

Some of you sound like you were expecting the next Deus Ex from it.

unlogical? put down the controller and pick up a dictionary

Chicago? Did you notice that every character in the level was asian and the fact that the camera zooms in on a huge Hong Kong at the start of the level. And everyone in the market trys to kill you because after the guy whips out a shotgun all the citizensrun awayand the gang members come out. And what action movie doesnt involve the main character killing hordes of enemies?! I disagree with everypoint you made and with good reason.

dude the gameplay is AMAZING!! especially the lil perks such as you get to zoom in and shoot people more accurately and they react differently to each shot placed, i was doing that forever! and the spin move was AWESOME! i can just imagine the multiplayer man, you hiding behind a pillar when all hell is breaking loose. and your pillar is being blast to pieces and gunshots flying everywhere destroying everything...... *drooooolllllll....

Stranglehold just seems like an average game where you just kill people endlessly. I know my friend wants it, but it just doesn't appeal to me, I want a bit more depth than that.

Actually, demo's are demonstrations of what the finished product will be. Beta's are works in progress. Plus the game is coming out in a week or two.

Well. The jokes on me. I guess I'm the only one who actually doesn't like this game.

Anyway I don't think there were any options menus in the demo(the demo was all i played). And to that poster who said, "how can you expect anyone to read that mess", I was tired and gradually falling asleep when I wrote that and just wanted to finish it so sorry.

Well. I'll still keep my dislike for that game. Goodbye Stranglehold. Hello Bioshock!:)

most of the people on this thread obviously hate the demo, i loved it! for those of you who are going to buy the game or even give it a rent i respect you. And yes some people on this thread were right, id rather have fun action gunfights rather than on shot your dead kill thing, its ok if its not realistic its about if its fun and arent what games are made to do?

the biggest problem today is that gamers expect every title to look the same as their previous triple AAA title. Not every game developer produce the same way. Lack of thinking outside the box for some of you is the problem, not the demo. If the game was really that bad then everyone would be saying this, but that's not the case. Just that too many people are stuck in the mind set of GoW ...

Its an arcade style shooter, its not supposed to be realistic. i had tons of fun playing the game, reminded me of a crazy action movie like Ong Bak except with guns.
