i'm gonna get a 360 soon (finally!!!) , but i sit right next to the tv (it's small) and i am worried it will be too loud. the original wasn't noticable to me so if it's the same noise then everything's good.

also, it's safer horizontal isn't it?

i dont think its that loud at all, ive heard people say it sounds as loud as a blow dryer, to me they are just exsagerating (spelling) the loudness of it.  ive had 3 xboxs, my friends got got them too and they arent that loud.  you can hear them if your tryin to hear them but its a non factor.

it gets pretty loud when it reads disc but it shouldn't sway you from experiencing 360 for yourself

With out the nyko air cooler my 3600 sounds mabye a  little louder than the xbox, but with it on it sounds something like a small hand held vaccum. Which is a small price to pay to make sure it dosent over heat.

Yeah, I use a nyko intercooler.  I would describe the sound like a handeheld vaccum.  I haven't ever complained, because the gaming experience is well worth the noise.

Just so you know, Don't buy that Intercooler that those guys were talking about above me. It's basically useless as long as you have an opened area around your 360. Also it isn't good to buy because it feeds directly off the powersupply of the 360 so that lowers the power that the actual console recieves. When the console doesn't get enough power, just like a computer, it messes up the motherboard and your 360 is trashed. Also 360's are somewhat notorious for having Power Supply failures. So I'd just stay away from the Intercooler, I don't have an Intercooler and I've had my 360 since January 2006 and It's still running perfectly.

You might also like to know that in newer 360's and the Elite there is a different disc drive that is quite a bit quieter than the originals like I have. The original ones are louder that my gaming PC! I have a ton of fans on that PC too, but don't worry about the noise, the new ones are just fine.

It is pretty loud and it is definitely louder then the original Xbox.  It's not really loud to the point it will bother you but it's noticeable.

It's a noisy machine, yes. I'm going to say as loud as a dehumidifier on low.
