Is the Darkness as good as an 8.5??

I cant be bothered to check if it indeed got an 8.5 but i think it got somewhere about that.

Anyway...i played The Darkness and dont get me wrong, its a GOOD game, but its not GREAT. I played it and thought that it was missing something. The grapx are great but the gameplay is kinda loose imho. Its like theres no satisfaction out of ripping someone apart with the stealth darkness ability or anything!? It happens and you barely get to see it happen, they should have implemented like a 5 second animation or something!

In full - it leaves me wanting more in terms of executions and things. Maybe i should play it more because i dont have any other skills apart from the stealth and that other one. But maybe i need to wait till i level up, but unless the kills for the other moves are much better, i cant see myself rating this as an 8.5 at all. Mind you the grapx would get 9 and sound would also get 9. The gameplay and longgevity would be like 6 imho.

Im sorry you feel that way... but its my opinion fella. I get more satisfaction from one curb stomp in gears. but like said, hopefully as i get more powers that will change

8.5 is right on the nose..I am replaying the game on hard (did it on medium already) and i am having trouble with the freaken cops when they have me trapped in the restaurant, so if you haven't completed the game on hard do it.It alittle bit of a challenge.

I think it deserves the 8.5, but to be honest, the new review system sucks, and it should have gotten an 8.9. It's closer to a 9 than it is an 8.

I've only gotten to play about 3 1/2hours of it, but I was completely drawn into it, I get really freaked when The Darkness starts getting angry with you, or trying to unleash it in the Subway, it's evil, but not that evil....they really spent a good deal of time setting the atmosphere to creepy as hell.

The graphics are superb, the voice acting and story are fabulous, the music is phenomenal...it's a work of art, and I hope more developers starting investing as much timeas Starbreeze did on this game.

The AI isn't too bright... stay in the kitchen and send out your eel thingy to eat a guy or two... the other cops will stay back in a panic and you just pick them off one by one with the eel

the voice acting is probably the best I've heard in a game, ever, especially Mike Patton.FlawlessSeasons

I was wondering at some point if the voice acting in this game is the best I've ever heard in any game, and I came to the conclusion that yes, it is. I posted in some other thread that I was actually shocked when I found out that Mike Patton's voice as The Darkness features no enhancements whatsoever, not even a rigged mic. It's purely his vocal talents. Just think that everytime you hear The Darkness speak, there's a human being with no vocal enhancements behind that voice. Kinda makes you go wtf. Play this game in surround sound for a truly unforgettable experience.

Jackie Estacado is voiced wonderfully as well, especially after......

......his girl gets capped in the head, and he becomes enraged and thirsty for vengeance. The voice acting in those monologues he gives during the loading times (best idea ever, btw) should seriously be shown to students taking voice acting lessons, especially the ones where he talks about going after so and so for revenge.

Anyways, amazing game. Recently the MP was fixed of most of it's bugs, and the survivor and CTF modes are highly fun, If you have live definately get this as well.

Wow, so you just got out of the Tunnel and stopped playing? You dont even get Darkness powers in 5mins. I respect other peoples opinions, but dude, you don't see squat in 5mins. Be more realistic and actually offer an intelligent opinion rather than just incoherent babbling. And it's a FPS. Of course you just go around shooting. Otherwise it would have been an RPG. But seriously, the story line of The Darkness is better than many FPS to date, although a bit on the short side. 5 mins? I don't think you are even shooting 5 min into the game...

I would not be surprised if this guy gave Hour of Victory a 10 rating...

I do have a slight issue with the A.I. sometimes, specially that of the darklings, and if the multiplayer didn't lag as bad, it would be perfect.

I beat the game on Medium in two days, now almost near the end on Hard mode. It's challenging, yes, but the controls and how immersed I was able to get into this game makes it easy.

And as for fun factor, what can't you do? I was flinging corpses and cars on top of buildings with my demon arm for about fifteen minutes before moving onto the next mission.

Ok so i gave the darkness a second chance after starting this thread, and i just got the demon arm ready to go into "no mans land", then switched it off because i needed sleep. Its getting better though.

I know this is an amazing game, its just the kills in the game didnt satisfy me up until now really. The demon arm is one of the better killing moves and i appreciate that. It is a great game its just i didnt really get the "kick" from the other 2 abilities.

To the story - well you cannot fault the story really, however for me to lovea game, all elements need to be addressed, this includes gameplay, and for the reasons stated above, is why i posted that it wasnt that great. I shall wait to receive the black hole ability and see if i feel any different....it is getting better to me though. Oh - to the guy that said im not following the story line...well i am, but its not the only variable that allows me tolovea game.
