I've been holding out on buying a 360, but I'm thinking of "jumping in" for my birthday in July. I've heard that the Elite, while having basically the same guts as the original, has some sort of sealant on the motherboard (for what reason, no one really knows). My question is, who on the boards here has had an Elite die on them or knows (directly) of someone's that did. Problem can be mechanical or dreaded RRoD.

I hope it is more reliable but i have a feeling it isn't. But i don't hear of them dying. I heard 1 person say it died but that's a lot less than the hundreds for the other models.

I have an elite and no problems so far but i also have a premium and it conked out after 10 months so only time will tell. I will say this though. The 360 is awesome and has a great selection of games. Just seems to die which is a shame.

The chipset and cooling system is almost identical to the original 360. The only change is the addition of the HDMI port. The Elite will be as reliable as the original, no more. From what I hear though, most 360s are reliable these days. The only batch that had really severe problems were those made in late 2005 (like mine, and she's still going strong) and early 2006. Get one now, you won't regret it. Buy Gears and Oblivion, and keep your eyes peeled for some truly amazing titles this fall.

It's not like it's a problem. If you get error 0102 just fix it with the eraser trick. I was receiving the three red lights of death until I opened up the 360 and applied the erasers to the memory chips. Now it's fixed and works like a charm. To think I was going to send it in to MS for 140 bucks.

The elite has more changes than the hdmi port. It has no capacitors and less transistors compared to the premium. This means that there is less heat produced. Epoxy is put under the cpu and the gpu, which kind of prevents the cpu and gpu from popping out of the motherboard when it warps. You can find all of this on llama.com. There are significant difference, but other problems may still exist like the dvd drive and things of that nature. I think some still overheat, but I know its much less than the premium.
