My friend has a Hori Pad EX Turbo and it's d-pad is excelent. I've been searching for one myself, but apparently they are kinda difficult to find.MGS-GrayFoxWal-mart carries them, but not online. According to the website, they don't sell them in stores, either, but it's nonsense. I went to my local wal-mart and they had about twenty. A friend of mine in sault ste. marie michigan had the same results. if you can get them there, they should have them anywhere ;) You could also try the d-pad mod, just google it. basically it entails sandpapering the edge of the plastic (i used a dremel tool on mine). It's not as good as the hori, but it definitely works well. I have very little problems with fighting games on the 360 anymore.
Actually, let me rephrase what I said earlier. The problem is being fixed in Europe, Asia and Latin America! They have fixed the problems with the D-Pad and it should be out soon, if not already!
However, do to US Patent issues and infringment, Microsoft will not be putting the new controllers out with the better D-Pad in America, bummer for us yanks...
Hell yes there is... You better get a Hori Ex turbo. It's got a SNES style d-pad..perfect for playing fighting games with a controller if you don't want to invest in a arcade stick. The EX Turbo is a bit bulkier (thicker) though than the default controllers, and you'll feel it right away. Trigger and shoulder buttons don't feel as comfortable as the default controller either, and if you drop the ex turbo, there's a damn good chance you'll have to open the controller up and re-position the springs that rest under the trigger buttons, 'cause they tend to get jammed. But for the d-pad alone? It runs circles around the microsoft 1st party controller...
