Is there any reason to wait for the next gen?

I have recently thought alot about getting a 360 since the price drop and all

and the wii I already have isnt really "next gen" enough for me alot of the time

but with rumors circulating about when the next x box is coming out, should I just go get it and risk getting outdated or should I wait for the 720 and not get to enjoy any of the awesome games the 260 has to offer? just speculation is helpful

I know theres a ton of good games out for it that will hold me over until whenever the jump happens and thats all I really need

plus im not gonna lie, rock band is such a sick game and if I get a 360, I dont have to deal with the crappy gimped version of another certain system's rock band that is a waste of money

Yes, there is a reason to wait. The only reason to wait to the next gen is if you want to miss all the greatness of this gen. The 360 came out three years ago. You've already missed a lot. I got my 360 on launch day. I haven't missed anything.

I'm so glad I'm not cheap like some of you guys. You wait that long for these consoles to come down in price that once it's in your cheapskate range it's near time for the new generation of consoles.

Thing I can't understand TC, is when the next Xbox comes out you probably won't buy it straight away anyway because it will be out of cheapskate range and you'll want to wait 'til the price comes down which will take a few years. So, if you think about it, if you bought a 360 now you'll have many years use until the third xbox comes down to cheapskate range. So yes, you should get a 360.

Next gen probably wont be around for atleast 3 years, generally we get atleast a year of notice before anything is released.hooded1man

360 was revealed May 2005. It was released November 2005. That's just 6 months. PS3 in contrast, was revealed May 2005 and it didn't get released where I live for almost two years. March 2007.

According to Microsoft the "720" will be released at the same time as the PS4 which is when the PSP is cut from production in late 2010 so defintley get a xbox pal as your missing out.conorJgeraghty

Of course, this probably does not apply to you, as you either:

A) Have grown up rich your whole life and have no concept of thriftiness or saving money. Or

Seriously, people have bills to pay, gaming might not be their first priority. As for the OP, yes buy a 360. The price drop makes it all the more desirable and the next xbox is far off. Unless you don't mind waiting for about 3 or 4 years for a crazy expensive console. Not to mention that the first 3 months of games for that console will probably be mediocre.

I think you've won the prize. You know nothing about me yet you've made assumptions on everything about me from the family I was born into to how much money is in my bank account.

Just so you know, I'm 26, my family isn't wealthy, I don't live with my parents, I've got a good job, I pay my bills and I've got money in the bank.

Now I'm gonna make assumptions on you, you've never had a girlfriend, you're 17, you wish you could afford more than one console but you don't get enough pocket money, your family is poor so you think you'll always be poor, in your opinion the only people who could ever possibly afford more than one console is movie and sport stars. The point I was making is that anyone can create a life for someone they meet on the internet and make up anything they like. I know what I said about him isn't true, same as what he said about me isn't true. Obviously you were too stupid to realise that.

What I'd like to know is why do people on internet forums think the only way you can afford the things you like is if you live with your parents? The only thing I can think of is you all must have really crap jobs that pay very little or you're still in school.

For those of you still in school here's what you do. Pay attention, learn everything you can, figure out what you'd like to do for the rest of your life and earn the qualifications needed. Once you leave school and start getting paid save your money. Work as much overtime as you can and earn as much as possible in as little time as possible. Use the money you've saved to buy the things you need or just want just for the fun of it. Try to hide these things from people on internet forums though because they'll accuse you of being a lazy waste of space who lives with their parents even though you've worked hard for the things you own. They say these things because they're jealous. Instead of getting ahead in school or work they were probably at home playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Thread creator, I advise that you get a 360. There're lots of great games for it, and it's going to be years before the next Xbox is released.

I'm probably making a mistake getting involved, but between all the personal attacks, there is something of interest to me here. If someone says they can pretty well afford anything Xbox-related that they want, somebody else pops on the forum and accuses them of being a 30-year-old nerd in their parents' basement. I don't get that. Why wouldn't you just assume that someone's 30, and, you know, works a job? You know, I generally try to save money when I'm buying games, but I really don't think of it as "saving money for the future." The difference between buying new games and used games has such a tiny impact on my finances as to be irrelevant in the larger picture. Xbox is definitely one of my cheaper hobbies.

Do yourself a favor and get a 360, PS3, a Wii or whatever. You'll love it man. There's so much that's going to happen in the next 3 and a half months that's going to rock your socks off. Elann2008

The PS2 only lasts 10 years because Sony is still shoveling money into it to say they had a longer lasting console. If they would have stopped milking the dead cow when it was replaced, it would have had less than a 7 year cycle.

Which is sort of a stupid strategy anyway. I know several people who still haven't upgraded to PS3 just because they still make games for the PS2 (even though those games are of generally poor quality at this point. Barring multi-platform releases... which actually degrade the quality of their 360 and PS3 versions.)
