Is there anyone else that doesn't like the direction RE is going?

ever since RE4, the franchise hasn't felt the same.

compare RE4 to say... the RE1 remake to gamecube. HUGE difference. the RE1 remake is probably my favorite out of the entire franchise. why? because the game itself is scary as hell. the way the game was played (camera, movement, etc) made the game that much more scary.

since RE4, it feels like there is too much action. yeah sure it has it's scary moments, but it has more 'action' than 'adventure'.

i realize that RE's old style wouldn't really play too well next-gen, but RE is changing way too much.

RE5 is in the bright day light? ...

i'm starting to look foward to silent hill 5 more than RE5...

anyone else feel the same way?

i would love to have a more traditonal resident evil.4 was such a radical depature from the series and it could of been a new hit franchise for capcom.i cant complain about the new direction though because the quality is top notch.

well i'm not saying the new gameplay and direction is bad, i just miss the old way the franchise used to be. RE5 doesn't look like it's going to have the same impact on me as if RE4 would, it just seems like more of a shooter than a horror action/adventure game...

I completely agree. The REmake was my favorite RE game. Though I enjoyed RE4 like hell, I do miss the old style of RE. I'm very iffy on the 5th one, to be honest. It kinda turns me off, but I am extremely interested in seeing what the character development is like. I need a twist, damnit!

Have you seen the videos for the original RE4? The one with the hook man and creepy looking dolls. Now THAT would have been scary.

The problem we have every time this discussion comes up is similar to the predicament Fallout fans find themselves in.

People find it hard to understand that we do like both things, but 'prefer' one over the other.

In this case, I would LOVE more than anything in the world to see a traditional, 'tank' controls, fixed camera Resident Evil, with limited ammunition, puzzles, etc, a Survival Horror. To this day Resident Evil 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.

That said, Capcom is onto a winner with the new formula as well, given that Resident Evil 4 is widely recognised as one of the ebst action game of all time.

But I would like to see the two formula's run side by side, or for the RE4 formula to be used on a different franchise, or maybe for Capcom to make a new survival horror franchise and use the old formula.

As much as I love RE4, and I do love it, it's a fantastic game, the one thing I will never forgive it for is adding a HUD, that was one of the main reasons I was so attracted to the RE series, no HUD added so much to the survival horror aspect, more than people might think at first glance.

I think for now though, the RE4 formula is here to stay and the old tank formula is on the "Out of Action" shelf. :(

Nah, I'm totally happy with the new direction of RE. The old formula was getting incredibly stale and outdated. And RE never was scary. How can a video game be scary? It's not real. It's just a bunch of polygons. They just gotta keep working on the voice acting. It's definitely better than it was in the beginning, but it still sucks.

I wasn't a big fan of the series of RE4 so I disagree. I hated the controls in past installments.

I don't find any of the games to be scary so for me it's about the gameplay.

ive played most RE games. re0, re1,re1 remake, re2, re3, re4, reo1, reo2, re4, re:cv

i agree, re4 has changed the original gameplay of the game. Its suppose to be a survival horror, where you dont have enough bullets and no chnoice but to save it as much as u can. re4 became a shooting game. trigger happy!

i missed the things where you can combine things and you can make something out of it. and thats wat you need to move onto the game and progress. combining keys, gun powders, eblems etc.

I don't agree.

I've played RE installments previous to RE4 so my opinion is valid here. I didn't like them. Sure, they were a little scary but you hardly have sit there playing with a scary face unlike when you watch a thrilling movie. I prefer the action-oriented gameplay RE4 offered. That has my preference. I wouldn't mind if they threw in a thrilling setting, but to be honest, I think RE5 looks decently thrilling in the cutscenes. It may be less so, but they are not abandoning that concept completely. If the gameplay it offers means sacrificing thrilling parts in the game then I say: why even ask?

I'd prefer a new game over the same game over and over.

Rest assured, it will have dark moments.

Nope no idea, its the only game that I hope E3 will shine a light on since most game are quite predictable even with minimal coverage. Capcom must be working hard with all the stuff they are releasing but its a bummer that they shutdown Clover Studios (One More Viewtiful Joe).

hmmm i do prefer resident evil to resident evil 4. although resident evil 4 is an outstanding game it just isnt resident evil. i would have prefered it if they made a a brand new game with the gameplay of RE4 so then they could keep making classic resident evil games

It has to happen. If they change nothing, people will knock it for being RE 4.5

I learned from RE4 not to doubt them, not everybody was happy that RE4 completely changed everything they had built the series on. After a month though, nobody cared...the game was just too good.

I have the same faith they will do it again, Cover system against zombies seems stupid, but I'll hold my doubt until I see more. And no matter how bad they say it is, it's a game that nothing can stop me from seeing for myself. For now, I'll just sit and anxiously wait.

I started playing with the first RE's, but besides RE4 being too easy it was awesome.

i agree 200%....i've been saying this ever since i finished RE4.

the classic gameplay and style is definitely missed by me...RE5 looks cool, but im just not a fan of the route the series is going.

i say that combine RE's controls with Silent Hill's camera angles, and you got just about the perfect horror game. but im more worried about where silent hill is headed.

I completely agree. Don't get me wrong, RE4 is a good game. But RE used to be a survival horror game. Now it's just an action game. There are way too many enemies, and even when you have a beefed up shotgun it still requires up to 6 blasts to the head to kill some of them and those enemies are usually the ones that one-hit-kill you. That's not scary... It's just annoying. If they put RE4's camera and controls into RE, 2 and 3, I think you'd have a perfect game. (and a more flexible inventory, Re2's is just bad...)

As it stands, I like RE: Dir. Cut, 2 and 3 much more. They're short, sweet, and you can get through it without dying if you're skilled & careful. RE4 on Professional just feels like the game is geared towards screwing the player with cheap insta-kill monsters and sequences, whereas RE3 was a difficult game on Hard, but not to the point you'd see "You have died" over and over.
