They wont have planes because the maps are smaller single city as opposed to several cities and the creators felt that nobody in real life flies from one end of the city to another in a plane, they would use a helicopter to do that if they did, and guess what, they are including helicopters in the game!!
 It is nothing to do with console capabilities and certainly not to do with 9/11 (lets not have the opportunity to fly a plane in a computerised skyscraper...... but include murder, prostitution and random violence instead)
 If you want to fly a plane i suggest buying Flight Sim or something.
At least there are still gong to be helicopters. i wonder if there are giong to be single enggine planes like in Vice City? it seems like a lame question, but i liked the plane missions.
That is the most ludacris thing I have ever heard. The 360 isnt "powerful" enough to have planes. haha that is stupid. Its because of the density of the city there is no room for planes.

i do presume that people like the author of this topic occasionaly read the developers comments on the game on Gamespot??
The actual developer himself went into the whole "Planes" saga about a week ago and i am sure someone could dig up a link if they wanted.
He never mentioned 9/11 or technical issues, merely that there was no call for planes to fly from one side of a city to the other. It was trying to put a feature in that didnt make sense to the gameplay. Helicopters will still play a part as they are considered city travel but planes are not, as these are used to get from one city to another of which San Andreas had 3 of these cities (so made sense to use planes to travel between them) whereas GTA4 has just the one huge one (and therefore in the grand scheme of things people do not get in a plane on one side of New York City, to travel to the other side of New York City!)
Someone please dig up the link from the Gamespot archive to end this speculation

the way that the 360 is designed it is better then the ps3 at wide open ended environments and ps3 is better over smaller environments with sharp textures.

Dude its in a "New York" environment. How many planes do you see openly flying around in New York.   And why do you thin GTA 5 will be on ps3 in your opnion? Because if Rock Star has it on both systems they will seel twice as many games. But I want to hear why you think so.

 So there is no need for a plane in GTA4 since it will only take place in NY (as opposed to San Andreas which took place in 3 cities seperated by rivers)

You have no idea what your talking about. San Andreas city was "huge" that was on ps2. So there goes that idea. And lets say for a second that the make a city SOOOO BIG that the Xbox 360 little discs cant hold them. Then RockStar cant make GTA for xbox 360 and loose half of their games sold. Now the ps3 has it and its great. But Rockstar looses money. And one thing I do know is RockStar isnt about loosing money.

San Andreas city was "huge" that was on ps2. So there goes that idea. gac8666
San Andreus was large, but it was also bare. Small textures, low quality sound, empty buildings. GTA4 is a bit smaller than San Andreus but filled with buildings you can go in, high res textures, models and sound. If it even comes close to pushing 9gigs then the 2nd GTA4 will probably go PS3 only for the original release.

Who cares about a level on a game-based forum? You are the true example of a loser, level has nothing to do with knowledge of video games, it merely has to do with doing things around this website, and not the skill of the gamer. Not to mention the fact that more than three times people have said there wont be planes b/c it is only one city. Why dont you read all of the responses on a thread you start before you start arguments about which system is better.
BTW.... though there are fanboys that defend their system and hate on the other till the end. Most developers dont feel the same way, they develop what they can for what system they can in order to make money......your money.
First of all the article did not say it was due to 911 that they will not have planes in the game. They did say that you may fly a helicopter. Besides the city is based on New York it is not actually New York so crashing a plane or helicopter into a building would not even make a difference.
as said, there won't any planes, but their will be helicopters. This has nothing to do with 9/11 or that the xbox supposedly wouldn't be powerful enough.. the ps2 had planes in gta sa, and the 360 is 100 times better than the ps2. It's just because rockstar is making gta IV far more realistic than previous gta's. And flying from one end of ny to the other with a poor european immigrant as the pilot isn't really realistic. who the hell takes a plane to fly accross the city :P
