When I bought my HDD I thought I would be able to do other things with it. Not buying overpriced Microsoft crap off xbox live marketplace. You can get that stuff cheaper from the ipod store. The prices are ridiculous for renting movies and buying TV shows. So thats a $50-100+drive,plus you have to pay for xbox live and on top of that you have to buy Microsoft points. Not to mention that I only can download xbox live marketplace stuff on the HDD. The only free content is a few game addons, game demos and some made for web videos. Why does Microsoft always have to screw something up that could have been done better? What pisses me off even more if you can use whatever drive you want in a ps3 and use content off your computer.

Its getting annoying when people call someone else a troll because they disagree. Am I wrong about anything I said? I'm just pissed that I spent money on a HDD and all I can do is pay more money to use it. Its ridiculous and a ripoff. I didn't know Microsoft was your pimp. Microsoft needs to stop overpricing the HDD and xbox live content. I have a 1.5TB external HDD that costs less.

you can still use that hard drive without spending a single ms point. most 360 games have demos, all of them are freely available on the marketplace. some games have free dlc, i know bioshock, halo 3, and gears 1 and 2 all do. and with the nxe, you can download some games to the hard drive to make loading faster/quieter.

I got a new 120 gig HDD for less than 80 bucks. And most of the stuff on the market place I don't care about ... Accept for RB songs, that's all I have ever payed for. I don't mind that they charge for game content, If I want something bad enough I won't mind paying for it.

Okay, so if you don't like the content offered by Microsoft don't buy it. As others have pointed out a HDD is used for lots of other applications on Live--not just selling you stuff. While I do agree that there is a growing trend toward over-commercialization on Live, the fact remains that you have ultimate control over what you do or do not purchase. It's that simple.

**Also to all of you HDD price complainers--The MS drive is SOLID STATE. They are a lot more expensive than regular drives due to their heighted durability (no moving parts) and performance. If you could pit the MS drive against an HDD in, say, a laptop or the PS3 you would see that they are very much superior and thus more expensive.

heres an interesting one for you, if you thought it was over priced why did you buy it?

and if you think sony does things so much better you can always trade in the 360 for a ps3 ,,, bleedin eck I feel so dirty for saying that!!!!

The argument that the 360 hard drive is solid state and thus more expensive and far superior is completely inaccurate. In world bench tests comparing solid state drives vs. standard hard drives there was little to no increase in peformance of the hard drive. There was an article on gamespot outlining this, and several on many tech blogs and websites. Please don't state these items as fact, when it is clearly not the case. Solid state drives are more expensive than standard drives but have yet to show a measurable improvement for the increased cost when compared to standard hard drives. I own a 360 and agree the price per gb that MS charges is ridiculous compared to industry standard. And really it's only for the sake of calling their hard drive "proprietary", when in actuality PC World published a full article on how to replace your cost-inefficient 360 hard drive with a larger one not purchased through MS.

yeah but with all the money these guys make just from the live subscriptions alone should be enough for us to get more free stuff.
