Don't rent, buy it ... for a new copy, if you can find one it won't be more than $15 Canadian. I picked up a used version 6 months ago for $10 ...

Seriously though, it is a difficult game, not overly impossible ... but hard.

You can easly complete it in 3 days if you have 3 days of time. But trust me your going to get frustrated so you might want to take breaks. Please send me a PM once you beat it :)

I don't think they've become easier per se, I just think a lot of the more frustration in the older games have been reduced. Let's take Halo 3 as an example.

If you have a friend with you, beating the game on Legendary is not a huge challenge because you just need one person to stay behind while the other keeps running forward and killing as many enemies as he/she can before dying. You have infinate respawns as long as there's one player outside of the action. There's also check points in Halo 3 so you don't have to start all the way from the beginning when you die. Can you imagine how frustrating it would be to beat this game on legendary without any kind of save points, and everytime you die you have to start at the beginning of the level or all over again?

Older games weren't really "hard' but just so frustrating that it made them seem harder. That's my opinion anyway

Also the fact that you have a bunch of save points makes life easier. Did not have that back in the day.

Games are getting shorter, so if you have 3 solid days to put into playing a game, chances are you can finish 90%+ of the games available for any current console.

Anyway the hardest difficulty isn't meant to be impossible - games are meant to be fun, and a game which leaves me angry and frustrated having to replay a certain section just isn't fun.

Games are easier now because I am so damn good at video games in general. Once I understand the game's underlying mechanics it's like second nature. I can almost instantly tell what to expect of the gameplay and how to exploit it to it's fullest. I don't think games used to be harder back in the day, I was just young and not as good at them. For example I downloaded a bunch of VC games I used to have trouble with on my Wii and they're a breeze.

I've never tried CoD2 but another one you might want to try if you think those games are too easy is Ninja Gaiden 2 on Master Ninja, or maybe Ikaruga on hard without using a continue.

Out of the ones you list I've only tried and completed Halo 3 and CoD4 on the hardest levels and might try Gears soon. There are games out there with a default difficulty harder than Halo 3 Legendary and I do admit I kind of thought it would be harder, but I was still satisfied with the challenge. CoD4 Veteran I thought was a pretty stiff challenge. Neither one was the toughest thing I've ever played but I would never say either was easy. To each his own, but for me they were about right. I like a challenge but I also don't want it to be impossible.

Maybe youve gotten better in playing shooters by beating all of them all the time? Try a race game on hard.

games are more complex these days and the process of making them difficult is harder than when games were simpler. difficulty now relies on a.i. more and a lot of equations and stuff.

Unless you're Ninja Gaiden, then you just ramp up the amount of damage the enemies take and add more supporting enemies to the boss fights, which is really a cheap way to artificially up the challange IMO.

Games have gotten easier for lots of reasons.

1.) There are now checkpoints and save points.

2.) Most games give you an infinite amount of lives.

3.) Games are meant to appeal to casual and hardcore gamers.

4.) Games shorter these days because more detail goes into each section.

5.) We (gamers) have a lot higher standards these days compared to back in the days of the NES.

Hope that clears things up.

If you beat that game in only 3 days on Veteran, then youre either a super mutant monster freak or you have wayy to much time on your hands. I go with the ladder option.

Yea I don't see Ninja Gaiden 2 or Devil May Cry 4 on that list. If you had played them, you would have never made this.

But I get your point. Bioshocks chambers made it a cakewalk, same for Bad Company. No penalty for dying makes it a no risk thing...not much fun.

Still even though Bioshock is cake, try getting the Brass Balls Achievement. Sometimes Achievements are where the real challenges can be.
