Hello guys and girls this is the first time i have ever left a message on a forum so i will try and get straight to the point.

The thing is i want to buy an xbox 360 premium package but as everyone knows the red light of death as everyone is calling it has come to haunt many 360 owners (wipes a tear away).

Are the hardware problems as bad now in 2007 as they were when they were first released 2005 wasnt it ? from the forums i have read they all seem to be having problems but they were posted in 2005-06.

But also arnt they bringing out a new smaller chip in september? would it be worth waiting for that or would it be safe to get the premium package now?

one more thing is there a website that tells of the latest xbox 360 updates wether it be about games or even about the hardware?

If anyone could reply to my post i would be very grateful (salutes)

dude you have nothing to worry about. M$ should replace any unit or HDD that has a problem. as long as you have a warrnety but you a get 1 year standard when you buy.

Plus waiting till the fall for the new chip doesn't promise you a thing..  It certainly doesn't promise you a a perfectly working console..  Just buy now and enjoy it!!  Just get the warrenty!

no. as long as you treat your 360 with loving care, it shouldnt have any problems, short of freezing a couple times, which is solved with a single restart.

and to clyde46, i don't know what your talking about. m$ has the worse technical support ever. my harddrive broke and it took me a week to convince them that it was really broke.

Wow, I wish I could agree with you, I really do..  But I have to disagree.. I'm on my third console now..  I've gone through the 3 red lights, disc damaging, freezing everytime I play games..  I don't move my consoles, don't stand them up, keep them covered when they're off to limit dust..  Treat my consoles better then I treat myself and still I've had problems..

Yeah, though odds are you'll get a good one so don't worry to much about it..  But the facts are there and they're scary..  Warrenty yourself and you'll be fine!!

Plainoldsam from what i read the new chip is meant to reduce overheating and has fewer transistors on it or something like that.

But doesnt this show that microsoft has a problem? and this is there way of thinking of **** weve got problems and the new chip might get us out of this ditch? (tightens fist whilst looking at bill gates).

Yes good point.. It's clear by now MS has problems..  This new chip of course confirms that..  After all, why fix something if it's not broke right??  Well MS is trying to do something fixing so somethings broke..

Just make sure you get an extended warranty and you should be fine. I thought I was going to be one of the lucky one's, but my launch system died 1 month ago so I am now on my second unit. It's not the most reliable piece of hardware, but get the warranty and get to gaming!!

My 360 was manufactured "2006-11-14" and got the 3 red rings a few days ago. I'd imagine not much has changed in the manufacturing process since then so the problems are almost certainly still there. Proper care of your console won't help, a console that is doomed to break isn't going to last forever if it's well ventilated. Great console but get a warranty.

I am on my forth console right now and even every once and awhile I have a mild problem like the system will freeze when I open the guide during a game. Nothing serious though the other day the drive stopped half way when it was closing but I think the disk was out alittle.
