As said, I've started GTAIV five times now but have never got past a few hours in. I sort of get bored by it all - I just don't get it. I would really like to get into it - it obviously has great review, as does the lost and damned and ballad of gay tony, but I just don't think I ever will. How long do I keep playing for in the hope of actually getting into it? Will I ever? Has anybody else been in this position? Aaagghh !!! It's just driving me mad that I can't get into it!

Took a little bit longer for me to get seriously bored with it. If you don't like what you've been playing so far, I'd recommend to not bother with it. I think I completed 30% or so, and I'm never going back.

why would you force yourself to play something that you dont like? Just stop playing and sell it or whatever.

I got mine at launch and didn't finish the story mode until a week before The Lost & Damned came out. I played about 4 missions and got bored. Then I played multiplayer for about a month or so until Madden came out. After that I didn't touch the game until early January. I literally had to force myself to beat the game. The bank robbery and maybe a few others were the only good parts of the single player. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the multiplayer :)

I forced myself because I payed $60 for it and I wanted to attempt to get my moneys worth. I also wanted to complete it before I played The Lost & Damned even though it wasn't necessary story-wise. The only games I trade in is Madden, Live, or 2k.

It starts off slow, with the meeting people, dating, etc bullcrap they make you do. It gets better once you start doing some jobs for Jacob, then moving onto the second island.

Thanks guys!

I'm not going to force myself to play it, I'll more than likely never touch it again - i just wondered if I played for say 10hours - would I maybe get hooked - probably not by the sound of things.

I have enough to play at the moment anyway with Borderlands and FM3, plus MW2, AC2, Dragon Age and more just round the corner.

Yea.. who wants to play a game with a great cinematic story and wonderful voice acting, and decent gameplay in a lifelike city. Go play halo, or viva pinata. god

I have to side with drocka11. Or at least with what he's getting at. The story is great. It's funny. The humor around the city is great too. The spoofs on TV, the radio, the (in-game) internet, the products. It's all very clever. The city is alive. It's very detailed. And the way the missions and stories intertwine between the main story and the stories of the Lost and Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony is very cool and very clever. Cameo appearances all over. You really have to pay attention to the people you have met previously to completely appreciate it. A minor character in Niko's story may be of great importance to Johnny from The Lost and Damned, etc. I can't remember another game handling it's story quite like this. But I get it. Some people just don't have the attention span for it. They want all action all the time and don't appreciate the more subtle things.

Maybe it's just not your type of game? I love GTAIV.

I've beaten it at least5 times and never get bored.

Half Life 2 got amazing reviews but I can't play it without getting bored. Not because it's bad, but because it's just not for me.

I have the exact same problem. Then you start again 3 months later and it gets frustrating because you forget how to play, right? So you start again...

For some people it's just more appealing than for others. Personally, the main thing I like about this game is the characters. Throughout the game, you'll meet all sorts of interesting and entertaining personalities. The missions and story themselves are meh, but getting to know Liberty City's biggest players kept it going forward for me.
