Ever since I got my job working a 9-5 as an accountant, I have no time to play video games. After I come home from work I have a few hours but I have to eat and I have to go to bed early because of work the next day. On the weekends I go out or watch football, so I end up having very little time for games. It's a double edged sword because I need the job to buy video games, but when I have the job, I have no time for games. I miss the old days of being in college and unemployed. How do you make time for games?

I worked 6:30-5 everyday for awhile and I found time to play after I set myself into a routine.

Two things I learned:

1. I run fine on 5-6 hours of sleep.

2. Eating breakfast will keep you from crashing at work, especially if you're only going on 5-6 hours of sleep :P

If this is the first time you've had to work full-time, just wait for your body to get in-tune with your schedule. 9am really isn't that bad (if you go to bed at 1am and get up at 7, that's still 6 hours of sleep).

i'm in a similar situation. i work 8:30-5 monday through friday. i play videogames a little during the week but can only really get decent amounts of time in on the weekends. but then watching football/baseball/ufc etc comes in conflict as well.

I worked 6:30-5 everyday for awhile and I found time to play after I set myself into a routine.

maybe im not on a healthy diet because if i get any less than 7 hours i'm usually real tired at work.

Are you in government or a private firm? Your schedule says government to me, unless it is a small firm, because all I hear about is if I work in the midsized to Big 4 I'll be working 80 hour weeks.

No i work for a small private company, my work schedule isn't set, I was just using 9-5 as a metaphor for having a generic M-F job.

Try balancing college and then work on the weekends into your video game routine.. it really does mess up my gaming habits. At least I'll get the summers off to play hardcore.

I've the same problem. I work 10pm - 8am Wednesday - Saturday, and my girlfriend steals all my time on Sunday - Tuesday because I cant see her on days im working (because I have to sleep all day), plus I have to spend 2 days being really tired from changing my sleeping pattern around (I change it so I can do stuff during the day on my off days, and back to sleeping during the day on my working days) which means that I've got nearly no time for gaming, or when I do, Im too tired to play anything. It sucks. I keep buying new games too but havent really got to play any of them properly.

Actually it's a good thing to have little time to play games because there are many other things that aremuch more important than games; I enjoy playing games but playing for long time will destroy your health and social life. I was old PCgamer addicted and I feel like I wasted 2 years playing online and now I am anaccountant too and I am happy that I play like 1 to 2 hours per day and some days I don't play at all while for weekends you really gotta enjoy your social life :)

Do accountants really work 80 hours a week? Because if they do, I should probably find another major. If I don't change, hopefully I will be a CPA in 3 years.

I'm a CPA with a wife and two kids. What works for me is once I'm off work, I give the family my time till about 8:00pm. From 9:00-11:00 is my time to either watch a movie or play games. You can make it work. Balance is a necessity in life.

Wait a minute...you only work 8 hours a day...but have no time for video games?

My average work day lasts 12-14 hours...my days off are spent with my wife and kids...but I still find time to play games here and there.

Its called growing up and having to prioritize your life. Alot of us are in the same boat. I work 50-60 hours a week, try to spend time with my children and my wife and do odd things around the house. I am an older gamer that really has to pick and choose what games I play now. I simply dont have time to just buy everything under the sun. Like right now I play Madden 10, Borderlands and that is it. Next week Ill throw Dragon Age in the mix and then Modern Warfare 2 hits the week after and Ill be set for the next 6 months on games. I will say that luckily for me, my wife is a teacher and I am a retail manager, so I usually have atleast one day a week where I can play my games for a huge chunk of the day as nobody else is home until after 3.

I feel ya. This is why I'm always late playing games or never get to far in them compared to other folks. Example, I'm only level 19 in Borderlands while my friends are on their second playthru.

I miss Summer vacations...

Very few accountants I know work more than 40 hours a week, and yes they are in the Big 4. I work M&A and still find time for video games although very small amounts until Sunday. The real world isn't too bad, I've been working at an investment firm for 2 years now and it's been a great experience.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Work 40-50 hours per week. I have to drive in to the city for work. Girlfriend. Watching a lot of football with the fellas on the weekends. Some days I just wanna call in sick, break out the chronic, and play some X Box for 10 hours straight. Being a responsible adult sucks balls

LOL at the guy who suggested that you work part time instead

I work 8 to 4 and come home mad tired because i work in the carpentry trade. When i come home i got the usual chores and that leaves verry little time for games but ill still get my game on granted i can't play for hours on end like when i was unemployed, lol. I usualy pop in sports games during the week because i cannot get into verry long games anymore, at least not like i used too....

Consider yourself lucky that you have a job regardless of whether or not it **** up your gaming time. Some of us have been unemployed for upwards of two years and have to turn to selling our bodies on the streets to support our gaming addictions...

I don't know, that's what they pound into your head in college. I know someone who works for Crowe as an auditor and during the busy season they do 60+ hours. I can imagine smaller tax focused firms getting really busy during tax season.

When I was working full time, and going to school part time, I found time during meals, and before I went to sleep. A good formula for making time in a busy schedule is by documenting your entire day. When you write everything you do down on paper, you see where you waste time doing things you don't want to do as much as you want to play video games, and thus, time appears. A second solution is to play with your friends. Get a bunch of people together and play some Left 4 Dead or CoD4, then you can chill with your friends and play games. Killing two lawyers with the same shotgun blast. Hope that helps!

I had a similar problem at my previous job. I worked longer hours, I would come home, wash, eat, etc. Then I would be too tired to play. Somehow I managed to beat MGS3 though.

Super agree with this guy at least for now. I got a part time job at walmart at the beginning of my senior year at school, making 9.15 an hour for about 25 hours a week. I make enought money to make my $300 rent payment (pretty nice house actually, 2 bed 1 bath remodeled top to bottom). I will admit life gets boring, but I also have no bills either. I dont watch tv, I pay about 80 for my internet, and even after all else is payed I have about 200 or so to spend on junk. Usually games or go out to an overly expensive restraunt. Im just chillin.

i notice a lot of people say they watch sports on the weekend. one thing one of my friends does is plays a game and then uses P.I.P. to put up sports. then if it looks like something awesome happens you can pause the game switch to the game quick and catch the replay or the score.

I guess it all depends on your previous gaming habits before you had a job. For me, I've been used to playing just a few hours here and there. I'm an architect, so I'm used to working at least 50 hrs a week (and that's not even including weekends) so a couple of hours every few days fits my schedule pretty well. Also, I usually just play one game at a time (and that mostly stems from the deal I struck with my dad when I was younger that he wouldn't buy a new video game until I had beaten the last one), and that really helps me stick to the games that are excellent/appeal to my personal tastes.
