It's not a game for everyone. Especially nowadays, a game has to be flawless or it sucks. If there is one slight problem with the game, such as it doesn't have 10 pages in the instruction manual it sucks. Thats what happens with great games though. You never see anyone bashing Big Rigs or Deal or No Deal for the DS.
I loved the story, combat could've been better and the game could've been longer, doesn't make it any less of a game though.
Even though I thought it was a great game, I found it a little on the short side and it wasn't the story that impressed me as much as how they executed it through the presentation. I doubt it'll be the best game ever.Dart_McloudI agree, execution was probably 50% of it
Wow wow wow. The ending was so epic. I'm not going to reveal anything, but it was just so insane I was so giddy throughout maybe the last half-hour. Then to top the epicness that amazing credits song. Mass Effect is just amazingly godlike. For all those who don't have it, get it NOWDivergeUnify
If you liked that then you should play Final Fantasy 6 through 9. Mass Effect is nothing compared to those glorious, unsurpassed masterpieces.
I just picked this game up with the purchase of my 360. I'm only an hour or two into the game, but I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait to see this so called "epic" ending.EseyzeI tried to be a good person throughout, but mad a renegade deciscion at the end so that had an impact on it
ending was good but it wasnt the best single player game

Heh, it was the best western single player game, I'll give it that. I have yet to see a western-style game today that can surpass what Mass Effect did.
An absolutely beautifully written and plotted story. I played through the game 4 times, and loved it every single time. Even the gameplay stayed fresh because I always tried to hamper myself in someway, like only using the Sniper Rifle no matter what, or only using Biotics or Engineering. It is a little bland though. They could have made the fire fights felt more... I don't know how to explain it.
For example, in Gears, the combat feels solid, if that makes sense, while Mass Effect felt really lofty, or loose. If it had the gunplay mechanics of Gears, it would have been truly incredible, but so far I can only honestly give it it's true props for story.
People who didn't like it were impatient. They were casual or hardcore gamers who either didn't have the time, or didn't want to take the time. It takes a special kind of gamer, hell, maybe just person, to really play and love Mass Effect. I mean, it's like reading a book, watching a movie or a series, and playing a game all at the same time. I loved it.
In the second one, I hope they don't screw up like Bungie and say, "Hey, people liked this one element a lot, let's only focus on that." Everything in a certain patern, in a certain balance, is what made the first Halo great, and it's what makes Mass Effect truly special.
mass effect was great, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the best single player game ever. it's really personal preference though.BlakeStuntDudeG
As the post topic implies "One of the greatest single player games". It may not be THE best, but it certainly is one of the best single player games.
For me this was one the the best single player games to come out to the XBox 360 in recent history. Everything was so well done. Graphics were out of this world, gameplay was fantastic with strategy, the main story was very strong from start to finish, great cast of characters, and a really good ending that has made me more interested for the next installment. I think Mass Effect should have atleast had a 9.0 even though it had flaws. I mean come on, Assassin's Creed got a 9.0. Mass Effect was obviously the better game between the two.

I think this is more the point:
If the types of people (typical, dumbass American gamers) in this country cannot appreciate a good storyline, then they should just get the hell out.
