Assuming you did get one with a hard drive, I would also hit up the XBL marketplace and download Aegis Wing and that new Yaris game... two free full games released that are relatively simple. Aegis Wing is much better than the Yaris one, but hey, can't beat the price!
personally if i were you and had JUST bought my 360, i would take a look around and see if any games interest me now, otherwise i'd save my money and get games like: guitar hero 3 kane & lynch mass effect assassin's creed and games like those. going back to current games, skip halo 3, it's not that great. get rainbow six vegas though, that game never gets old :D
If you will get XBL Gold, buy Halo 3. Otherwise, don't waste the money. Oblivion, Guitar Hero II (3 when it comes out), Rainbow 6 Vegas, and COD 4 when it comes are good choices.

So many ggreat games to name so many to play. i suggest going in to the gamespot review section for the 360 and then sort the section by rating and then buy the first ten games with great reviews.
o yes btw, i do have a hard drive, i got the falcon premium one, I bought a 360 mainly for halo 3, but I also have a ps3 and have most of the games you mentionned( fifa 08,graw 2, R6V, and so on..) but I have another question, what are good 360 exclusives coming soon (6months)?
