An overwhelming feeling of disappointment for me I'm afraid, the fully customizable weapon feature is a nice touch but has the game actually progressed that much from the first instalment? I enjoyed Dead Space 2 because the novelty was still rather fresh, however to produce a third instalment which is reliant on the same key points which made its older brother so successful is no longer acceptable. The gaming industry has spoilt us over the last 15 years, visual and handling development has exploded onto our game consoles on a gargantuan scale, we have become difficult to please and unless significant change from one instalment to the next is made I fear our favourite genres will begin to whittle, I have no doubt our favourite game developers are plowing endless funds into NEW development's, just don't rely on a game engine which is almost a decade old to win you any future awards. I agree. To me it felt tired tested and overplayed. Same feeling i had with GAT4 on its release.

I liked Dead Space, was a decent survival horror. Dead Space 2 was a third person shooter with some jump scares.

Dead Space 3, with its co-op and Mass Effect dlc rubbish just seems a bit of a joke to me. Not even going to try the demo.

I liked it...even though the atmosphere is not as intense as previous tittles in the series!!! I'm getting it on it's release but it's sad that the series is heading down the same path as the RE series.

Seemed like good solid necromorph blasting action to me. I'm interested to see how the co-op aspect will play out.

we have become difficult to please RichySe7en

Not true. Not true at all.

We are finishing a gen where the vast majority of games were FPS trying to copy the best seller of each year, which has been the same game every time with different maps.

When a new game came up and sell well, a new installment on the franchise would be created, but losing the essence of the first, and aiming towards the already mentioned GOTY.

Entire genres have disappeared or are about to.

No sir, we are not difficult to please, if anything, we are pleased with COD, FIFA and MADDEN, year after year.

If things keep going this way, expect next gen to have only 5 games a year, and the rest be DLC for those games.

Now back on topic, I only played the first 3 minutes of the demo, so cannot give my opinion, but from what I've seen, it doesn't feel as good as 1 & 2. Although, I'll have to play it in order to give an honest and educated opinion.

I'm not happy with repetition. Sporting titles are different, we have updated rosters, new player development and how far can you actually develop a winning sporting title? Games developers play it safe because the gen pop do not respond well to change.... Resident Evil 6 was a fine example, the game wasn't poor by any stretch of the imagination, however the game has lost it's roots (it started to do so in 5) it's no longer a survival horror, more of an interactive action adventure, the same seems to be happening with Dead Space. These games play fine and are entertaining however when we expect the same adrenaline buzz, genuine sense of fear we experienced in previous titles and we don't get that disappointment is imminent. Resident Evil 6 has promising aspects and I'm sure the same mistakes will not be made again (Leon's campaign had genuine aspects of survival horror, especially the first two acts, same can be said for the ada Wong missions, real Zombies are the way forward). Despite its flaws Dead Island is a fantastic game for building a genuine sense of fear, you could die at any time if not fully prepared, I like being kept on my toes, audio is fantastic, the sound of a groaning Zombie is immediately followed by a 360 degree sweep and a little prayer that a horde hasn't caught sight of you, Dead Island was fresh with aspects of previous RPG's (its fine to take inspiration from other games, Darksiders 2 proved this and hit the nail on the head). I respect anyone who tries to deter from the norm, another fine example, Deadly Premonition, one of the greatest stories with countless twists and turns of our time...... I will leave my rant there for now, but change is necessary otherwise you may be right Joker and a lot of our favourite genres may disappear in time to come.

Yet I do believe there is hope. Take Slender for example, an indie developer made it, everyone liked it, now it's going high budget.

Not many companies care or dare to go and explore new territories, and I do not blame them. I'd probably do the same in their place.

That is why, when a company dares to do something not "COD"ish (don't mean COD the game, but it's influence on devs), I usually buy the game.

CD Projekt for example, they made The Witcher 2 for PC. Gamers complained about some stuff from the game. Then they solved those complains and gave the content for free on PC, and the extended version for 360. They were involved and they deserved the support. The game wasn't the best one out there, but pretty damn good!

We as gamers should support the games we like, and the genre. If we only buy what reviewers say is worth it, then the whole industry is lost.

Heck, I bought Splatterhouse (3.5 on GS I think), and had a blast with it. Finished it twice, which is pretty rare for me, and loved it!

Really? I think XBLA and PSN download games are keeping genres like platforming and adventure games alive.

In fact, an adventure game won GoTR in some lists this gen.

I think my top ten games this gen would include about 2 FPS games

I agree that it was too much like DS2. I was also disappointed that it was the E3 demo. I was hoping to get a taste of what they haven't shown us yet.

felt just like a DS game to me, so i am happy. everyone said DS2 was just going to be an action game and it wasnt... anyone who says otherwise is a fool. DS2 had just as much suspense and horror as DS1. NEITHER game was scary... but the DS games arent meant to be scary. they are meant to be horror. there is a huge difference. horror films give you an ominous sense of doom and uneasiness while you watch them. scary movies attempt to elicit fear and shock in the viewer through jump scares or playing on peoples emotions. the same is true with games. texas chainsaw massacre (the original) is not a scary movie, it is a horror movie. the original Evil Dead is not a scary movie, it is a horror movie. The Grudge, The Ring, Paranormal Activity, Quarantine... those are "scary" movies. you arent supposed to be scared while playing deadspace, you are supposed to have a feeling of dread and suspense. both DS1 and DS2 achieved that. I see no reason why DS3 will fail at it.

From experience, I've always thought the demos for Dead Space never came close to representing the actual games for some reason. Though I can't comment on the DS3 demo since I haven't played it.

I will buy the game alright, I haven't said otherwise, however if the demo is anything to go buy it will be lacking something other installments hasn't..... Of course I will be buying it, I'm the ultimate horror fan.......

I have to admit i felt my heart sink as i was playing, it felt like nothing but regression. When compared to the pure white knuckle terror inducing Dead Space 1 this feels like Dead space has made its final decent into 'Generic sci-fi shooter' and with the emphasis on co-op in this one i completely felt the fear factor had been lost! Dead Space is headed in the wrong direction :(

It still mostly felt like dead space. But in the Previous 2 games, I never used the heavy weapons (guns), I always relied on just the Cutter...but in this demo, I felt like I "had to" us that gun with the way things were presented. Not a huge deal, but I don't like being forced into it like that.

And I could do without this upgrade system...I don't want Dead Space to be an RPG...and I love RGPs

I really liked the first two and so far from the demo, it feels like the same thing, but that's not always bad. I have been playing abit more of Blops 2 and BF3 as of late and whenever I play a 3rd person shoot, my FPS aim goes out the window for some reason (just a totally different aim "feeling"). Not sure what I feel though, seems like it will have good action and will probably be fun to play via co op (though none of my friends will buy it :(...). Although I have it on pre buy, I'm kind of waiting to see the reviews to get a feel for how the rest of the game holds up. Should be good though as I can't see them totally dropping the ball on the 3rd game, but we won't know until we read about it and or play it.

WAAAAAAAAAA wtf is everyone whining about, it is the third in a trilogy, nothing more than the continuation of a long story, why should it be completely different than the first two.  We have become spoiled at this point in gaming and are like children, wa it doesnt have enough new guns, wa it doesnt have as much scares as the first one wa fucxin wa.  Get over yourselves.

I somehow managed to read my way around that hash up and understand what in the blue hell you were on about..... A forum built to discuss gaming believe it or not contains many aspects of gaming and in the main people discuss their feelings towards a game.... If you intend to stick around further I'd get used to that idea if i were you..... I know you're kind, you wake up everyday and measure your genitals against a can of coca cola praying that the bulb has passed the rim of the can, we chat bubbles because it entertains us, embrace it sir and stop trying to measure up to the rest of society........ Relax!

Dead Space hands down falls under the category of survival horror that's for sure, however the sheer amount of ammo available in this installment takes part of what a survival horror stands for away and co-op, no survival horror should be enjoyed by two or more people playing simultaneously
