Hey everyone, so today I just got an Xbox 360, brand new 250 GB version (the slim). Anyhow, I got Halo Reach as well and I'm having difficulties, to say the least. Whenever I try starting the campaign, I get an error message saying that the game couldn't be loaded for some unknown reason. Then in multiplayer, I get matched up with players, but whenever the game seems like it's going to start it just ends up searching for a new lobby. I'm not sure what the reason is, maybe my connection. But why won't the singleplayer game start? I'm really confused and kind of frustrated too, never had any problems with my PS3. Does the 360 require higher internet speeds or something?

Edit: Could this have something to do with a scratched disk? I bought it used and it doesn't appear to be in the best condition.

Well if you can't figure out what is wrong within 48 hrs after asking for help and searching the net just return it to where you bought it. When you say used I hope you bought it from GameStop or someone like that.

It was Gamestop, I'm guessing I should have probably bought new...

depends on how much you paid. $30 i'd say would be a good used price, hell even $35, no more than $40 though. that's assuming it's still $60 new, if it's $50 new, or less, then don't buy it used unless it's $30, however much you paid though, just take it to gamestop and tell them it wouldn't load or whatever, they'll give you a different copy

Also does the 360 fan normally sound pretty loud? I popped in the MW2 demo that came with the 360 because Reach wasn't working, and the fan seemed fairly loud, and was actually a bit annoying.

You can actually get Reach for $30 now when its on sale fyi. It probably is the disc because the new 360 slim's have pretty much eliminated all of the problems from launch. And yeah I'd install all my games not just cause of the noise but also to reduce wear on the system.

Sounds like the disk is bad.

Do other games work ok?

If you bought it from Gamestop you can take it back for refund in 7 days I think.

Halo Reach disks are realy bad now I know to people who have used disks that don't work. I'd reccomened getting a new copy and installing it. My reach has been installed since day one. I take very good care of my games, but they still get scratched a little bit. Games just can't take the abuse like cd's can.

The Slim 360s have very few problems and a failure rate of around 4-6%, if I remember correctly, well within the industry standard. It is possible that there is a system problem, but it is very unlikely. The disc, on the other hand, has a much higher rate of failure, especially if it is already damaged. Yes, the implications of that previous sentance are correct: even a new undamaged dics has a chance of not working.

If you bought it from GameStop, bring the disc in WITH YOUR RECEIPT. With the receipt, you have 7 days for your money back for any reason or 30 days for a defective swap for the same title. Without the receipt, company policy is that nothing can be done, but generally they'll cut you some slack if you're nice and just want a replacement.

If the problem persists and you fear that it is indeed the system, you do have at least 7 days (I believe 30, but it's been a while) to bring the system for a replacement, in if you bought it new. If you bought it used, it's the same as the Reach dics. Again, you DO NEED THE RECEIPT. The standard associate would be signing his or her own pink slip if they brought a system back in without verifying the purchase through either the journal or customer receipt.

Just don't be a dick when you go in and they'll generally try to accomadate you.

Hope this is of use!

Well Reach has been known to have some copies that do not work properly. Try another game and if it doesn't work return it for another console.

One peice of advice, DL all games to your hard drive. It'll run quicker, cooler, and quieter.

Your welcome.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I got adifferent Reachdisc and it works. But now I have another problem. I bought a new copy of Metro 2033, and when I try booting up the game the screen turns black and then I have to reset the console to get back to the dashboard. I'm really starting to think I may have gotten a defective 360...

Not the original one? I'm not sure I understand... there's only one disc for the game.
