Is there any other way to fix this than to send it to MS for repair?.....The warranty doesnt cover this ring issue, and I already tried connecting and disconnecting things from the console, but no luck....=-(

What if the AV cable is not the problem?...Look, here's how it happened. I turned on the console and then launched Halo 3 on multiplayer, I played for about 5 minutes into a match, when suddenly static lines appeared all over the screen, I rebooted the console and the E74 error came up.

Well as far as I know Error Code E74 means there's a problem with the AV cable

I thought E74 was the Hard Drive?

Anyways your best bet is to use www.xbox.com/support and search out your error and the listed solutions. Normally they have alternative listed other then sending it in.

I called tech support, plugged and unplugged everything on the console, hard drive too and it wont go away. My console is a year and a half old and the warranty doesnt cover that ring issue only RROD. Someone told me that in rare cases its the GPU that failed, sounds like I'm screwed!!!, MS is charging me $100 to fix it.

Im actually wishing it was the RROD problem, so that MS could have fixed it for free. I'm pissed that the warranty only covers that issue, even tought they know that the 360 is faulty and not just RROD.

I had the same thing. To fix it yourself would require you to crack it open and do some kind of x-clamp repair. There are tutorials all over the web if you look. Its risky though, because it might not work, and then Microsoft won't even touch the damn thing. I had disposable income at the time, so I just bought the elite. I think I might try and overheat the old one or something to get RROD. Either way, unless you're very technical, DO NOT try to fix it yourself.
