Lost Odyssey is really a hidden gem on the 360.
Its a classic RPG, so its not for everyone, but for anyone who can handle the gameplay and be satisfied with it. The best part of Lost Odyssey, is of course the story. Make sure you take your time, and take everything in from this game. In my opinion, its great!
Im on the fourth disc currently =]
The game is beautiful, and very fun to play. I find at times you will be overrun with cut scenes that seem to go on forever, only to exit out and get a dream sequence. It's a nice smoke break, if you're a smoker, but it can become tedious fast.
I'm not a fan of turn based RPGs & loved LO. Random battles were annoying, the loading cinematic for fights was long & annoying, the actual combat was slow paced & tedious (my opinion) and the game was very slow paced, but the story was good, characters memorable (Lead character is awesome), but the short stories. God damn! The short stories are so damn good.
LOL yeah im in the same boat dude! im on disk 4 thoughThe story line is great and the game play is fun.I really should finish the game LOL.

It's pretty good even if the gameplay is a bit basic and some of the voice acting is annoying. I would like to see more out of Mistwalker.
While I liked it, I found it a bit...slow, mainly because of loading times (like during bringing up a menu, going from one location to another, taking around 15 seconds after an encounter for a battle to actually start). Good game, although on the 360 I prefer Tales of Vesperia because everything is pretty much instant there.
I loved the game. Beat the whole thing twice and got my characters to level 99s. For $15 you got a heck of a deal. BTW what were they thinking with the packaging job though?
I think the 4 discs are there because of all the Final Fantasy CGI cutscenes you get through out the game. For what it's worth, I really enjoyed Lost Odyssey when it came out. The game places one foot down on the present with its visuals and the other in the past with a bit of an old school flavor with the combat. The combat can be a bit slow, but I think it was a nice design of the devs to reduce the amount of grinding necessary with the way the leveling system works.
The main story didn't really do much for me, but those Thousand-Year Dream short stories are really well done. They became one of my main motivating factors for playing through the game. Atmospheric, a bit somber, but it did a nice job of giving Kaim and the other immortal characters some personality. The main game feels like standard RPG fare, but it's definitely a fun ride. I did think the main villan was kind of lame, though.
Oh, and just as a heads up... make sure to level your characters as evenly as you can as there are moments where the party splits and if you have some characters underleveled, you might have some trouble. This is specifically for disc 3, though. Other than that, hope you enjoy the game.
Yeah, there's one spot in particular where not leveling certain characters came back to haunt me in a bad way. Actually, that whole disc was kind of uneven in that regard, but to a lesser degree.Oh, and just as a heads up... make sure to level your characters as evenly as you can as there are moments where the party splits and if you have some characters underleveled, you might have some trouble. I beat it a while back and loved it. It starts slow but it picks up the pace. The dreams are good and the overall story was pretty interesting. I guess i'm one of the few who liked the combat system. I thought that the rings made the attacks more interesting than your typical turn based thing and all the additions like double items, double spells etc kept the magic stuff fun. Leveling up is pretty cool to me to. I thought that was a good idea but wished they had done something like Chrono Trigger where there are tag team attacks, especially since characters get "linked" up anyways. At $16, I'd say the game is amazing.
I'm kinda suprised to hear people call it grindy. As far as equal leveling... I can't call that one. I won't go into detail about the system since I assume everyone here knows it, but I'm not sure why you wouldn't naturally try to equally or at least strategically level your characters. You're locked out from entire schools of magic and all of the best spells, attacks and bonuses if you ignore certain characters. On top of that, if you don't swap out your party becomes stagnant as far as what they'll learn and be able to do. I think the leveling system is pretty good. I usually just have one party and exclusively play with that in RPGs, but LO really encourages you to try out everyone and even rewards you for doing so.

It's for 9.99 on amazon uk :D
I hear that, I just got it and I'm already having trouble with a certain boss, oh well guess I'll have to grind a bit.ThomasdeleoIs that the first boss? It's notoriously difficult, and grinding won't help you much as Lost Odyssey basically level caps you in each area. The first boss is mostly luck, which sucks. There was a famous live demo before the game out of the lead designer showing it off, and he died at the first boss. :D
From my experience, the first two bosses in the game are the most challenging to deal with mostly due to lack of skills going into the fight. I also wouldn't call this game a grind really considering there is a level cap for each area, so you can usually blaze through and be at the appropriate level to continue. Then again, I suppose you could grind for useful skills, considering there are lots to master.
Make it through those first two bosses and you should have an easier time for most of the game. Just remember to keep all your characters leveled. Disc 3 is no joke if you don't.
It's definitely one of my top 10 RPG's and I play nearly everything. Other titles in that elite class for me would be Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, The Witcher, Baldur's Gate II: Shadow of Amn, Dragon Age: Origins, Risen, Gothic II, Deus Ex, FFX, etc. Lost Odyssey offers a stunning cast of mature RPG characters, along with an exceptional story that is even further enhanced if you delve into the "dreams". The gameplay sticks to a very tried and true old-school formula, which is what many RPG purists, like myself, want from an RPG. It's an epic adventure that spans 4 discs, and any faults I can say about it are very minor in the grand scheme of things. Lost Odyssey is easily the best JRPG this generation, hands down.
